Heart-Shaped Stones and Serial Killers — The Scarecrow Cast Shows Their Fun Side in New Behind-the-Scenes Video

The Scarecrow may be one of 2026’s grittiest K-dramas, but the cast’s chemistry off set tells a very different story. A newly released making-of video reveals a group of actors who joke, laugh, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company — even while filming one of the year’s most intense thrillers.

The Scarecrow — Overview

What Is The Scarecrow About?

The Scarecrow follows a detective investigating a series of murders who is forced into an unlikely partnership with a man he despises. Set between 1988 and 2019, the suspenseful story tracks two men bound by misfortune and an uneasy alliance of hatred as they chase the truth across 30 years.

Criminology professor Kang Tae-joo (Park Hae-soo) learns that the killer who has haunted him for thirty years has finally been caught — and specifically asked for him. As old wounds are dug up, he is thrust back into his detective days.

What the Behind-the-Scenes Video Shows

In the new making-of video, the mood on set shifts between lighthearted moments and intense focus. While filming at a mountain location, Jung Moon-sung is seen joking with the camera crew and drawing laughter from staff. Alongside Seo Ji-hye and Park Hae-soo, he explores the set and finds a heart-shaped stone — playfully showing it off to the camera and making Seo Ji-hye laugh, underscoring the contrast between the drama’s dark tone and the cast’s easy camaraderie.

A courtroom sequence shows a similar balance — the actors share lighthearted conversation during breaks between takes, but quickly return to sharp focus during rehearsals as they work through dense scripts and repeated run-throughs.

Why Fans Can’t Stop Watching?

Viewers have been binge-watching the drama, completing eight episodes in two days. The acting of main leads Park Hae-soo and Lee Hee-joon has drawn widespread praise, with Seo Ji-hye’s performance described as a revelation. Jung Moon-sung’s portrayal of the serial killer has also been called deeply chilling. AsianWiki

Episode 7 recorded a national viewership of 6.5%, maintaining its position as the top programme in its time slot nationwide and the top Monday-Tuesday drama, with the serial killer reveal delivering a major shock to viewers. Starnews Korea
