What’s the Story?
Gold Land follows Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), a security screening officer at an international airport who unexpectedly comes into possession of gold bars tied to an illegal smuggling ring. As those around her become consumed by greed and betrayal, she is drawn into a dangerous battle — not just with others, but with her own growing desire to keep the gold.
Park Bo Young described her character’s arc: “The process in which Hee Joo, who seemed uninterested in gold, changes as she becomes obsessed with human nature and desires will be portrayed in an interesting way.”
Meet Lee Hyun Wook’s Character
Lee Hyun Wook plays Lee Do Kyung, an airline co-pilot and Hee Joo’s boyfriend. After discovering that the smuggled contraband involves gold bars worth 150 billion won (approximately $99 million), Do Kyung begins making increasingly risky decisions — ultimately pushing Hee Joo into a chaos where greed and betrayal collide.
Director Kim Seong Hoon described the character: “Do Kyung has feelings for Hee Joo, but he can never be sure if they are love or desire.” That ambiguity is exactly what makes him compelling — and dangerous.
Star-Studded Cast
Alongside Park Bo Young and Lee Hyun Wook, the drama also stars Kim Sung Cheol, Kim Hee Won, Moon Jung Hee, and Lee Kwang Soo. The Oldboy screenwriter’s involvement alone signals this won’t be a typical thriller — expect sharp, morally layered storytelling.
The series is produced by Studio Dragon and was officially commissioned by Disney+, with filming wrapping in January 2026. Wikipedia
