Goddess Returns: Mookuthi Amman 2 Bags a Blockbuster OTT Deal

Nayanthara’s beloved deity is coming back — and this time, the streaming stakes are massive. Mookuthi Amman 2, the fantasy-comedy sequel everyone’s been waiting on, has reportedly locked in a huge OTT deal with JioHotstar, according to trade insider Ramesh Bala.

The original 2020 film became a surprise streaming hit, so it’s no shock platforms are fighting for the sequel. What is a surprise? The scale of this reported deal, which industry buzz says is worth a hefty sum — though the exact figure remains under wraps.

What’s New in the Sequel

Sundar C steps in as director, taking over from RJ Balaji, who helmed the original. Nayanthara returns as the titular goddess, and the film has added serious star power: Regina Cassandra reportedly joins as the film’s antagonist, going head-to-head with the deity in a battle that promises more spectacle than the first outing.

Mookuthi Amman 2: Overview

A Sequel Years in the Making

The first Mookuthi Amman skipped theatres entirely during the pandemic, releasing straight on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020, and built a cult following for its satirical take on fake godmen. The sequel carries a significantly bigger budget and a starrier cast, including Urvashi, Duniya Vijay, and Yogi Babu.

Nayanthara, meanwhile, has a packed 2026 slate — from the Yash-starrer Toxic to her romantic drama Hi with Kavin, both releasing this August.
