Gintama Creator’s Very First Manga Is Finally Getting Dandelion — And Netflix Is Bringing It to the World in April 2026

If you’re a Gintama fan, this one’s going to hit differently. Netflix has officially confirmed the anime adaptation of Dandelion — the very first manga ever created by legendary Gintama author Hideaki Sorachi. And yes, it’s coming sooner than you think: April 2026, globally, exclusively on Netflix.

This isn’t just another anime announcement. This is the origin story of one of manga’s most beloved creators, finally getting the animated treatment it always deserved.

Dandelion Netflix Anime — All Key Details

What Is Dandelion Actually About?

Think of it as a supernatural workplace drama with a big heart — and plenty of Sorachi’s signature comedic DNA woven through every scene.

The story is set inside the “Japan Angel Federation Sendoff Department” — a bureaucratic afterlife division with a very specific and tender mission. Two agents, the rough-but-kind-hearted Tetsuo Tanba and his deceptively fierce partner Misaki Kurogane, are tasked with finding earthbound spirits — souls stuck in limbo because of unresolved regrets — and gently helping them find peace so they can move on.

Unlike other divisions that rush the process, the Dandelion department slows down, listens, and truly cares. It’s a beautiful premise — equal parts funny and emotional — and exactly the kind of storytelling Sorachi has always been brilliant at.

The original manga was a standalone “one-shot” published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2002 — the very piece that kickstarted Sorachi’s career before Gintama took over the world. Netflix is expanding this compact story into a seven-episode limited series, giving it the room to breathe and explore that a single chapter never could.

According to Wikipedia, Gintama ran for over 700 chapters and is widely regarded as one of the greatest manga series ever created — making the adaptation of Sorachi’s debut work an event of genuine cultural significance for the anime community.

The Cast and Crew Are Already Impressive

Voice acting legend Chikahiro Kobayashi — known for Beastars and Golden Kamuy — brings Tetsuo Tanba to life, while Megumi Han, the iconic voice of Gon from Hunter x Hunter, voices Misaki. Both actors have prior ties to the Gintama universe, which adds a wonderful layer of continuity for longtime fans.

And with Yūki Hayashi — the composer behind My Hero Academia and Haikyu!! — handling the score, the emotional beats of Dandelion are in very safe hands.
