Gaurav Khanna Opens Up About Being Branded “Unlucky” — And How It Nearly Cost Him His Career

Being called talented is one thing. Being whispered about as “bad luck” for a show is another entirely. On “Khatron Ke Khiladi 15,” Gaurav Khanna finally opened up about the label that once threatened to end his career.

Gaurav Khanna revealed on Khatron Ke Khiladi that he was once branded “unlucky” after several of his shows failed, which led to him losing work opportunities. The revelation comes in an upcoming episode where host Rohit Shetty introduces a surprise twist, confiscating the contestants’ mobile phones and bringing some of their private conversations into the spotlight.

Recalling the difficult period, Gaurav said there was a phase in his career when he was labelled unlucky because a few of his shows didn’t run for very long, and what started as conversations behind closed doors slowly turned into rumours that if he was part of a show, it wouldn’t work — and he genuinely started losing work because of it.

He called it heartbreaking, adding that he always believed the success or failure of a television show is the responsibility of the entire team, not any single person.

How He Moved Past It

Host Rohit Shetty brought up a message from Hussain during the show, which reminded Gaurav of his past struggles and helped lift his burden. He emphasized that many actors face similar experiences and advised working hard and letting one’s work speak for itself, saying, “Pull yourself up instead of pulling others down, work hard, create your own place, and let your work speak for itself”.

The revelation comes during a physically brutal season for Gaurav. The Anupamaa actor was severely injured on the second day of the show during a pellet gun stunt, alongside co-contestants Vishal Aditya Singh, Shagun Sharma, and Karan Wahi. The season has also seen tension between Gaurav and fellow Bigg Boss 19 contestant Farrhana Bhatt, who reunited on the show after finishing as winner and first runner-up respectively.

Despite the rocky start, Gaurav’s willingness to share his career struggles adds a layer of vulnerability to a genre often centered purely on physical stunts within reality television.
