Professor Farnsworth’s memory has been going haywire — he forgot Cubert, forgot his own bath was running, and even forgot his signature “Good news, everyone!” catchphrase mid-sentence. Zoidberg’s diagnosis? The dreaded Absentminded Scientist Syndrome (A.S.S.). So in Futurama Season 14, Episode 4, “Lords of the Ring,” the Planet Express crew races to a rat-ruled planet for a cure — and the ending isn’t what anyone expected.
What Actually Happens
The crew heads to Vivisectoid Alpha, where Farnsworth once ran a rat lab. A century has passed in rat-time, and the rodents have evolved into an intelligent, Wheel World-ruling civilization that turns the entire Planet Express crew into lab rats — flipping the show’s classic animal-testing gags on their head.
Everyone assumes the professor needs the rats’ “brain juice” (cerebral fluid) to reverse his memory loss. He doesn’t. Farnsworth improves simply by being run through a maze, just like the rats he once studied. The cure was the experience itself, not the rat fluid.
