Two years after Season 1 became a sleeper hit, Flex x Cop is back — and its writer, Kim Ba Da, is finally opening up about why she couldn’t imagine anyone else in these roles. Ahead of the August 7 premiere, she shared her thoughts on Ahn Bo Hyun, Jung Eun Chae, and newcomer Yoo Seung Ho.
Why Season 2 Almost Didn’t Feel Possible
Kim Ba Da called returning after two years an incredible honor, crediting the show’s loyal fanbase for making Season 2 happen at all. Season 1 peaked at 11% in ratings and earned an early renewal — a rare vote of confidence in Korean television.
Flex x Cop 2: Cast That Made It Work
| Actor | Character | Writer’s Take |
|---|---|---|
| Ahn Bo Hyun | Jin Yi Soo, chaebol-turned-detective | Said he “became” the character, contributing memorable ad-libbed lines |
| Jung Eun Chae | Joo Hye Ra, veteran detective | Called irreplaceable for blending charisma with quiet strength |
| Yoo Seung Ho | Yoo Sung Won, sculptor and chaebol heir | Was her first and only choice for the demanding new role |
Kim explained that writing Jin Yi Soo — a wealthy heir who solves murders using his money and connections like cheat codes — was always a tricky balancing act between flashy and likable, shameless and charming. She credited Ahn Bo Hyun’s trustworthiness on set for letting her write the character’s boldest, most playful beats.

What’s New in Season 2
The upcoming season kicks off with terrorists targeting Jin Yi Soo, pulling him into his signature over-the-top investigations. Expect cases involving gangsters, magicians, and traditional Korean dancers, plus a teased storyline connected to Jin Yi Soo’s ownership of a film production company — one Kim hinted will be a major “flex” moment without giving away spoilers.
The dynamic between Jin Yi Soo and Joo Hye Ra also gets a spotlight, with Hye Ra consistently staying a step ahead while Yi Soo playfully resists following her lead.
