Turns out even a third-generation chaebol can’t buy his way out of a judo throw. “Flex x Cop 2” has just dropped new stills, and they reveal a flashback dynamic that promises to be one of the season’s most fun character reveals.
What the Stills Show
Ahn Bo Hyun reprises his role as Jin Yi Soo, a wealthy chaebol heir turned detective who treats his money and connections like cheat codes whenever a case stalls. Jung Eun Chae plays veteran detective Joo Hye Ra — now Jin Yi Soo’s partner and team leader at Gangha Police Station’s Violent Crimes Unit 1. But the new stills flash back further, to when Joo Hye Ra was actually his police academy instructor.
The images show an unpolished, still-chaebol-mannered Jin Yi Soo confidently challenging Joo Hye Ra to a judo sparring match — only to get thrown to the floor almost instantly. Other stills capture her pushing him through brutal push-up drills and tearing into his performance at the shooting range, cementing just how far he’s come since those humbling training days.

Why This Backstory Matters
Flashback training sequences like these are a classic way for shows to deepen a partnership before the main plot kicks in — giving viewers a reason to root for the current dynamic between two characters who’ve clearly earned each other’s respect the hard way. The original Flex x Cop built its appeal on this exact blend of comedy and crime procedural, a genre combination that’s become a K-drama staple in its own right; readers can explore more about the crime-comedy genre on Wikipedia’s Crime fiction page.
