Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging Is Coming Back to TV, and Netflix Is Behind It

Georgia Nicolson is heading back to the small screen. According to an exclusive from What’s on Netflix, the long-rumored TV adaptation of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging has landed at Netflix, with a pilot episode filming in the UK this October. Netflix UK declined to comment, so this isn’t an official announcement yet.

From Cult Film to Netflix Pilot

The series is based on Louise Rennison’s bestselling Confessions of Georgia Nicolson books, which were adapted into the cult 2008 teen comedy film starring Georgia Groome and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The rumors started when casting director Rachel Sheridan, known for One Day and Riot Women, posted an open call for fresh talent to play Georgia and her Ace Gang. Applications flooded in, and the casting agency had to close the window early. The ad only mentioned a “major streaming platform,” and Netflix is now confirmed as that platform. Casting listings used the books’ original, cheekier title, Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, though Netflix may stick with the more PG one.

The creative team looks strong. Monica Heisey, author of Really Good, Actually and a writer on Schitt’s Creek, is writing and producing. Jim O’Hanlon, who directed Catastrophe and Trying, is directing. Rise Films and Fifth Season are co-producing, with Jon Jennings and Sam Leifer also on board.

The Casting Call and What Happens Next

The open call was agent-free and aimed at newcomers across the UK, with no acting experience required, just a talent for comedy. Applicants had to be 18 or older, even though the characters are 15 to 16. The listing cited mature themes, adult content and working hours, which suggests Netflix may keep some of the books’ rowdier comedy.

The story follows 14-year-old Georgia, who is convinced teenage life is impossibly unfair. She falls hard for new boy Robbie, who seems more interested in other girls. She schemes to win him over while dealing with jealous friends, embarrassing family and disastrous dates.

The pilot films in October 2026. Netflix will then review tone, chemistry and test feedback before deciding whether to order a full series. If it does, filming is targeted for May to October 2027, pointing to a possible 2028 premiere.
