ISL Transfer Update: The Arrival of Felicio Brown Forbes injects New Life into East Bengal FC

East Bengal FC made a significant transfer move on February 1, 2024, by welcoming the talented striker Felicio Brown Forbes to the Red & Gold Brigade. This strategic addition to the squad aims to address the goal-scoring struggles the team has faced throughout the season. Let’s delve into the dynamics of this transfer, it’s essential to revisit the recent ups and downs in East Bengal’s transfer activities, shedding light on the departure of players like Javier Siverio and Borja Herrera.

East Bengal’s Struggle for Goals

The current season has witnessed East Bengal FC grappling with a shortage of goals, putting a spotlight on the underwhelming performances of foreign players such as Javier Siverio and Cleiton Silva. With Carles Cuadrat at the helm, there has been a palpable desire for a foreign striker capable of consistently finding the back of the net. The recent departure of Javier Siverio, who failed to make an impact since his arrival, paved the way for a crucial addition to the squad.

Transfer Hits and Misses

The winter transfer window has been a period of mixed fortunes for East Bengal FC. The missed opportunity to sign Nikhil Poojary, a right-back with multiple suitors, added to the challenges faced by the Kolkata Giants. As the team approaches the first Kolkata derby of the ISL 2023-24 season, the absence of Harmanjot Khabra due to injury has left a void in the right-back position. The inconsistent performances of Nishu Kumar and Mohammad Rakip have further highlighted the need for defensive reinforcements.

Victor Vazquez and the Departures

In a bid to address the shortcomings in the squad, East Bengal FC made a crucial decision to let go of Javier Siverio and Borja Herrera. Siverio’s departure to Jamshedpur FC marked the end of a challenging stint in Kolkata, where he failed to register a goal in the ISL. Borja Herrera, a creative midfielder, moved to FC Goa on loan, leaving a gap that needed to be filled. The acquisition of former FC Barcelona striker Victor Vazquez was a significant step, albeit at the expense of the transfer budget.
