Farhan Akhtar’s Old Wound Reopens As He Subtly Calls Out Ranveer Singh’s Don 3 Exit

Bollywood’s favorite unresolved drama just got a fresh twist. Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about Ranveer Singh’s shock exit from “Don 3” — and while promoting an entirely different memory from his directorial debut, he couldn’t resist drawing a pointed comparison.

What Did Farhan Say?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan revisited Saif Ali Khan’s last-minute departure from “Dil Chahta Hai” due to a scheduling clash. He described the experience as devastating, admitting no one else could have played that role and calling it a genuine heartbreak.

Then came the dig. Without naming Ranveer directly, Farhan noted the exit happened a month before filming, which he called “seems to be a pattern nowadays.” He added that similar situations happen beyond just his own projects too.

Farhan Akhtar: The Don 3 Row

Why This Comparison Stings

Ranveer was announced as the Don franchise’s new face after Shah Rukh Khan’s exit, only to reportedly walk away days before filming began. Speculation pointed to friction with Farhan, especially after reports claimed Ranveer felt blindsided by talks with Hrithik Roshan. Interestingly, after Ranveer’s massive success with “Dhurandhar” last December, there was buzz that Farhan wanted him back — making this new remark even more loaded.

Farhan Akhtar, known for launching Excel Entertainment and directing multiple hit franchises, has built his career on tightly scheduled, high-stakes productions where casting shifts can derail everything.

The Bottom Line

Neither Farhan nor Ranveer has addressed the Don 3 fallout head-on, but this comparison to the Dil Chahta Hai saga speaks volumes. As “Don 3” moves forward without its original lead, this rivalry-tinged narrative isn’t going away anytime soon.
