Dune: Awakening’s Landsraad – The Ultimate Political Power Play

Dune: Awakening, an upcoming MMO survival game set in the iconic Dune universe, introduces an innovative political system called the Landsraad that adds significant depth to the endgame experience. The Landsraad serves as a player-run council made up of 25 minor Houses, each controlled by player guilds. They are pivotal in keeping the two main factions, House Atreides and House Harkonnen, in balance of power.

Dune: Awakening Introduces the Landsraad, a Player-Driven Political System Shaping Faction Control and Gameplay

Every week, the minor Houses vote to support either Atreides or Harkonnen, and the faction with the most votes gets to set the laws and events of the server for that week. This creates a political environment that is constantly in flux and affects all active social entities on the server.

Guilds also impact the determination of the Landsraad by accomplishing missions established by the minor Houses, and these missions require them to take part in both PvE and PvP activities, such as crafting and resource collection or combat in Arrakis’ harsh desert. This means that any player type can contribute significantly towards the faction having a successful outing.

The cabal that wins the Landsraad vote can pass sweeping decrees that shape the server as a whole. These decrees may convey significant benefits such as faster crafting, increased damage, bonus experience, access to order-specific gear and character effects, and even a rule called “Right of Salvage” that allows players to loot all items from a downed enemy player while engaging in PvP combat within the Deep Desert. These rules, accordingly, will also represent player tactics and further loyalty and political clout among a faction.

The Landsraad rules encourage play by Discord of alliances and treachery between Guilds, but with more intricate webs of diplomacy, betrayal, and treachery. That is what makes Dune: Awakening a one-of-a-kind immersive game, where the politics of strategy are just as important as life and death combat. With the game’s release on the horizon, players will experience firsthand what it means to control the fate of Arrakis and its people, known as the Fremen.
