Disney+’s Gold Land Has a Corrupt Cop Who Doesn’t Want the Gold — And That Makes Him the Most Dangerous Character of All

What would you do if you accidentally stumbled upon billions of won worth of illegal gold? Most people would either run or grab it. Kim Jin Man does neither — and that’s exactly what makes him terrifying.

What Is Gold Land About?

Gold Land follows Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), a security screening officer at an international airport who unexpectedly comes into possession of gold bars tied to an illegal smuggling ring. As those around her become consumed by greed and betrayal, she is drawn into a dangerous battle — not just with others, but with her own growing desire to keep the gold.

It’s the kind of high-stakes thriller that taps into a universal truth: money changes people. And Gold Land isn’t shy about exploring just how dark that change can get. This is crime fiction storytelling at its most visceral and human.

Meet Kim Jin Man — The Corrupt Cop Who Plays It Cool

Kim Hee Won plays Kim Jin Man, a police officer who has long been involved in corruption linked to violent organizations. When a massive incident erupts involving 150 billion won (approximately $99.6 million) in gold bars, he steps back to observe rather than chase, carefully weighing his best options.

Kim Hee Won described the character as “a mayfly-like figure” — someone shaped to live by hiding his desires rather than revealing them. That restraint is both his greatest weapon and his deepest flaw.

Why Kim Jin Man Is the Character to Watch

Writer Hwang Jo Yoon revealed she felt most attached to Jin Man, saying he is a character she designed with the most empathy, adding that many people probably live by making compromises in ways similar to Jin Man.

That line hits differently. Jin Man isn’t a traditional villain — he’s a mirror. Director Kim Seong Hoon also noted that Kim Hee Won put tremendous thought into depicting the changes Jin Man undergoes after encountering Hee Joo and the gold bars.

Among a cast driven by raw desire, Jin Man’s cold calculations and unexpected pivots promise to be the wildcard that throws everything off balance.
