Raise your hand if you’ve ever spent 20 minutes scrolling through Disney+ and still couldn’t decide what to watch. Disney heard you — and their answer is Verts, a brand new feature that turns the Disney+ mobile app into a vertically scrolling, algorithm-powered short video feed. Think TikTok, but make it Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.
What Is Disney+ Verts?
Verts is a vertically scrolling video feed inside the Disney+ mobile app that allows users to swipe through short clips pulled from Disney’s vast catalogue of movies and TV shows — including memorable scenes, episode highlights, and quick previews designed to spark interest in longer content.
While scrolling, users can directly add titles to their watchlist or jump straight into the full movie or episode without leaving the feed.
It’s seamless, it’s intuitive, and honestly — it’s clever.
Disney+ Key Feature Details at a Glance
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Feature Name | Verts |
| Platform | Disney+ Mobile App (US rollout) |
| Format | Vertical scrolling short-form video feed |
| Powered By | Algorithm-driven recommendation engine |
| Content | Clips from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars |
| User Action | Add to watchlist or jump directly to full content |
| Goal | Daily engagement vs. occasional viewing |
Why Disney Is Making This Move
Disney stated that Verts is designed to make it “easier for fans to discover what to watch next,” offering “a fun, fast way to explore that catalog right from the moment users open the app” — in a format tailor-made for how fans already discover video on mobile devices.
The strategy is crystal clear: streaming services are no longer just competing with each other — they’re competing with TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts for daily screen time. Early testing of the feature reportedly showed higher user engagement, and Disney says Verts could eventually include creator content tied to popular fandoms and other interactive experiences.
The Streaming Industry Is Changing — Fast
Disney isn’t alone in this pivot. Netflix has already begun beta testing its own experimental vertical video feed that lets users scroll through clips from original films and shows.
The race to become your daily entertainment habit — not just your weekend binge — is now fully underway. And for a platform like Disney+ with its staggering catalogue spanning over 100 years of storytelling — from classic animations to the entire MCU and Star Wars universe — Verts could genuinely transform how audiences engage with that content.
The doom-scroll era has officially arrived on premium streaming. Whether that’s exciting or slightly terrifying probably depends on how strong your willpower is.
