Deepika Out, Alia & Sai Pallavi In? Here’s Everything We Know About the Kalki 2 Cast Shake-Up

The Kalki 2898 AD universe is expanding — and it looks like Bollywood’s biggest names are lining up to be part of it. What makes the casting even more interesting is the role allocation. Early speculation suggested Alia might step into Deepika’s shoes as Sumathi (SUM-80) — Kalki’s mother and a central figure in the mythology-meets-sci-fi narrative. However, reports now suggest that Sai Pallavi is the frontrunner for that iconic role, while Alia plays an entirely different key character in the ensemble.

Kalki 2 Cast: What’s Changing & Why

The Big Casting Buzz Explained

The original Kalki 2898 AD — starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone — became one of Indian cinema’s biggest science fiction blockbusters after its 2024 release. Now, with the sequel in active development, the cast is being reshuffled in a way that’s got all of India talking.

According to reports from Telugu industry insiders Aakashavaani and Telugu Chitraalu, Alia Bhatt has quietly joined the Kalki universe. She reportedly completed a five-day shoot in Hyderabad during the film’s second schedule — though neither she nor the makers have officially confirmed this.

If both reports pan out, Kalki 2 will have one of the most stacked female casts in Indian film history.

Sai Pallavi stepping into Deepika’s footsteps is no small ask — but she’s arguably one of the finest actresses working in Indian cinema today, and fans have already erupted in excitement at the possibility. Meanwhile, an Alia Bhatt appearance in a Telugu-led pan-India franchise signals just how blurred the lines between Bollywood and South cinema have truly become.
