Cocktail 2 Calls Last Round: Rs 139 Crore And The Curtain Falls

The party’s over for Cocktail 2. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, the romantic comedy has wrapped its theatrical run at a modest Rs 139 crore gross worldwide — a number that reflects a shaky word-of-mouth journey rather than a knockout finish.

Directed by Homi Adajania, the film opened with promise but couldn’t sustain momentum past its first week, closing out as an average performer for a cast and budget of this scale.

Cocktail 2: Week-by-Week Breakdown

The sharp week-two drop tells the real story — mixed reviews clipped the film’s wings early, and it never recovered. It did, however, manage to outdo Shahid Kapoor’s previous outing, O’ Romeo, giving the actor a small silver lining.

Beyond this one film, the numbers point to a bigger industry problem: the rom-com and mid-budget space is struggling to hold audiences in theatres post-pandemic. With OTT windows shrinking to just 8 weeks, viewers are increasingly happy to wait for the streaming drop instead of buying a ticket — a trend that could keep squeezing this genre unless release windows stretch out again.
