CES 2021: Lenovo launches ThinkPad X12 Detachable Tablet

Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Tablet which utilizes the newest Tiger Lake CPUs and has a Thunderbolt 4 port, It contains Intel Tiger Lake UP4 which is a competitor to the Microsoft Surface Pro, especially for business users.

Lenovo released its first ThinkPadX1 Tablet in the year 2016, Then in 2017, there was a small update in 2017. In 2018 again, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3, and there was a huge change in the design as compared with the original model. 

The initial two models of the ThinkPad X1 Tablet were powered with slow Core m CPUs. Lenovo turned towards more powerful quad-core CPUs with the X1 Tablet Gen 3. The new ThinkPad X12 Detachable chooses an understanding between the two different concepts, It uses new Tiger Lake CPUs with four cores but with the energy-saving UP4 variations.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Gen 1 uses a 12.3 inch 3:2 screen, an moderate size as compared to the 12-inch screen of the X1 Tablet Gen 1 and the 13-inch screen of the X1 Tablet Gen 3. The screen has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280, called FHD+ by Lenovo with the screen, which is ought to reach 400 cd/m² of brightness.

The chassis is smaller compared with the X1 Tablet Gen 3, Lenovo managed to build a battery with an identical capacity of 42 Wh, As the weight of the magnesium chassis falls at 760 g and 1.1 kg merged with the keyboard-cover.

The backlit keyboard of course includes the ThinkPad TrackPoint and also a fingerprint-reader and is connected to the tablet via a magnetic pogo-pin connection, typical for a Surface Pro clone.

Among the further features, there are additional ports, there are two USB C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 4.

Different from the premium series of the ThinkPad X1, the ThinkPad X12 won’t support 5G. Buyers have to manage with the optional 4G-LTE option. The ThinkPad X12 also means coping up with a maximum of 16 GB LPDDR4X RAM and a 1 TB SSD – though the SSD should be a removable M.2 2242 one.

It is new as compared to the X1 Tablet Gen 3, as is the ThinkShutter, which is a privacy shutter for the five-megapixel webcam.

For the price, the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 will be available from January 2021, starting from $1,149.
