Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

With days gaming on a smartphone has seen huge growth after the advent of PUBG Mobile with which seemingly a new hope of smartphone gaming has aroused. Now smartphone gaming has become a standard gaming platform apart from desktop gaming.

There are big competitions, reputed players, streamers and whatnot, this is driving a big revolution in the smartphone market. Now every reputed smartphone brand has its own gaming smartphone and as we know ASUS, the Taiwan giant is a world leader in the gaming industry, it also owns its own ROG Phone gaming smartphone.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

Last year we did get the ROG Phone, and finally after a lot of speculations the successor to the series has arrived – the ROG Phone 2. It was previously thought to be powered by the 7nm Snapdragon 855, which is common in every flagship device these days.

A few days back Qualcomm announced its new and refined Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC with not much huge improvements but yes, it has some extra tweaks that make it an ideal SoC for gaming smartphones. The ROG Phone 2 uses this blazing fast SoC and stands out to be the fastest one out there.

Now talking about the specs of the device, the ROG Phone 2 comes with a 6.59-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen. It is the first smartphone to feature an AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

ASUS did achieve a lot with this device by implementing a 120Hz refresh rate screen from 90Hz, seen on its predecessor that too retaining the AMOLED display. Now the design of the smartphone bears a lot of similarity from the original smartphone having the same premium metal and glass build.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

The grip of this device is expected to be the same from last year and also carry the improved ultrasonic Air Triggers gen 2 and the advanced haptic from the original ROG Phone 2.

The screen here has 1,080 x 2,340px resolution with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and also supports 10-bit HDR. It even exceeds the bounds of the DCI-P3 colour space (108%). The device boasts perfect colour accuracy (deltaE < 1) along with 240Hz touch response.

With optimizations to the Android core, ASUS does claim that it has achieved lower touch latency than the flagship iPhone XS Max. But ASUS is still stuck with the huge top and bottom bezels which has been minimally trimmed but somewhat reduced when compared to the original smartphone.

Being powered by the latest 7nm based Snapdragon 855+, it maximizes the smartphone’s gaming performance. This gaming device is paired with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. It also runs on the cut-down version of original Zen UI 6 seen on the Asus 6Z.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

You can switch from ZenUI Classic to ROG UI to apply various skins and improve the look and feel of the device. The Game Center found on the original ROG Phone has been renamed to Armory Crate which basically does the same job of showing RAM, CPU usage also device temperatures.

With it, you can even control fan accessories and control the light-up ROG logo seen on the rear end of the device.

Coming to the cameras, Asus never really cuts down the camera for a gaming smartphone. So, this one too bears the same camera configuration that the Asus 6z brings to you.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

It bears a primary 48MP with f/1.79 aperture lens and a secondary 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens on the rear side. On the front, we have a 24MP/4C selfie camera, specially designed for the comfort of gamers while streaming.

Talking about the thermals, which is the most essential part of any gaming device, Asus has again aggressively designed it for better cooling. It has tri-cooling approach – a vapour chamber, copper heat spreader, and graphite pads on the inside for better heat dissipation.

Also, there’s a new Aeroactive Cooler fan attachment, which has been redesigned to offer a quieter experience. It also helps to reduce the temperature by up to 5 degrees.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

The best feature of the ROG Phone is the huge 6,000mAh battery. Asus says that you can play up to 10 hours of PUBG Mobile with a single charge which is just amazing! It comes pre-included with 30W HyperCharger in the box which can charge a 4,000mAh battery in just an hour.

The ROG Phone 2 still has dual-USB ports (one at the bottom and one on the side), a 3.5mm headphone jack and a bunch of gaming accessories that enhance the gaming experience. The antenna placement on enables low-latency, high-throughput Wi-Fi connectivity.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launched with 120Hz AMOLED display & Snapdragon 855 Plus

Additionally, there are four microphones on this device for better sound reception. The ROG Phone 2 boats of dual front-facing stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra support that can simulate multi-channel audio. This new gaming smartphone has larger sound chambers than the first-gen ROG Phone making them 2.5x louder than the last-gen.

Honestly, we have seen a huge improvement in the ROG Phone especially in he performance, battery and display, other essential features have been improved for the better gaming experience.

But now it will be interesting to see how ASUS prices the device against the likes of other gaming smartphones in the market.

Zidane wants Bale to leave Real Madrid as soon as possible

Zinedine Zidane has publicly said: “We hope Bale leaves soon, it would be best for everyone”.

Gareth Bale was left out of last Saturday’s International Champions Cup clash against Bayern Munich. Zidane sees Bale as surplus to his requirements. And now, he determined to sell the Wales international sooner rather than later.

Zidane told reporters: “Bale did not play because he is very close to leaving. We hope he leaves soon, it would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.
I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done, I have to make decisions, we have to change.
The exit is the coach’s decision, and also of the player, who knows the situation. The situation will change, I do not know if in 24 or 48 hours, but it will, and it’s a good thing for everyone.”

Although, Bale has never shown much interest in leaving Madrid. He still has three seasons left on his contract. Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, told ESPN: “Zidane is a disgrace to speak like that about someone who has done so much for Real. If and when Gareth goes, it will be because it is in the best interest of Gareth and nothing to do with Zidane pushing.”

It seems Zidane does not value Bale’s ability despite his contribution to three consecutive Champions League titles. It was Bale’s double, including that stunning overhead kick, that sealed Real Madrid’s last European crown a year ago, defeating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev.

Bale

Bale has been linked to Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Tottenham during the close season. But Barnett has dismissed the latter link as “rubbish” amid doubts over Tottenham’ ability to compete financially. Very few clubs in Europe are capable of meeting Madrid’s asking price and Bale’s likely wage demands, complicating LaLiga side Madrid’s hopes of negotiating his exit. However, Zidane said: “We are working on his transfer to a new team”. So a move to the Chinese Super League is very much on the cards.

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Pochettino has refused to rule out if his chairman Daniel Levy has tabled an offer for the 30-year-old. He told reporters: “I saw the reports in the media but I don’t know which club is trying to sign him. I don’t have any information from my chairman; I don’t know if it’s us or another club. It’s the job of my chairman.”

The Independent has also made a sensational transfer revelation on Sunday. They reported that Neymar is “desperate” to leave PSG and a swap deal involving Bale plus cash is not beyond the realms of possibility. Neymar’s entourage have personally been trying to convince Paris Saint-Germain to swap him for Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale this summer.

Neymar and Bale

Ramon Calderon, former president of Real Madrid, has predicted the finances of any exit for Bale will prove difficult to negotiate and said he would favour a temporary departure for the forward, though he acknowledged such an option is unlikely. He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s unsustainable for everyone, for the player, the coach and the club. Zidane discarded him a long time ago. He said he wanted to keep Cristiano [Ronaldo] and to sell Bale [and] the president didn’t follow that advice, so that’s why he left the club [in May 2018].
When he came back he was promised Bale won’t be there in the future. Maybe the comments weren’t really appropriate, but I think what he showed is he’s fed up with the situation. The best thing to do is to find a solution.
No top player, and he’s one of them for sure, wants to be on the bench, they want to play. I’m sure he would like to play for Wales and mainly he’d like to be playing, it doesn’t matter where [but] I suppose in a big club.”

Bale

“What is true is that no offers have come. That’s another problem. They are talking about Chinese clubs. They have the problem that when paying the transfer fee, with a new rule, you also have to pay the same money to the federation, so that doubles the transfer fee. I think in this case the best solution would be a loan, but no one is willing to do that. With the high salary he’s got, and also the club trying to get a transfer fee, the solution is very difficult.”

Calderon also commented on whether Real Madrid have handled the situation appropriately: “I don’t think so. When these things happen you have to act quickly. I know one year ago we received an offer of around €100million and we didn’t accept it because the president thought that being his star, the one he signed, he should be here and perhaps the manager didn’t know how to take advantage of his qualities.
Maybe it’s true, but when you have a coach that says he doesn’t want to keep a player you have to look for a solution.”

Sony PlayStation 5 emulation ft AMD Ryzen 7 3700X & Radeon RX 5700XT

0

The Sony PlayStation 5 is one of the most anticipated game consoles to be released next year. Sony did confirm that their next-gen consoles will be powered by AMD.

The custom APU would be designed by AMD based on their Zen 2 architecture and Navi architecture. Also, from the 3DMark database leaks, the APU will be codenamed “Gonzalo”.

It is likely to feature 8 cores, with a CPU boost clock of 3.2 GHz and a GPU clock of 1.8 GHz.

Sony PlayStation 5 emulation ft AMD Ryzen 7 3700X & Radeon RX 5700 XT

With the information from DemonCleaner over at NeoGaf who built a PC with Ryzen 7 3700X and Radeon RX 5700XT did underclock it to match with the leaked Gonzalo reports.

The GPU frequency was reduced to 1800MHz at 975mV (stock is 2032Mhz @1198mV) to reduce power consumption to just 125W. Also, the CPU was underclocked to 3.2GHz on all 8 cores and undervolt to 1000mV (stock IIRC 1.4V).

Sony PlayStation 5 emulation ft AMD Ryzen 7 3700X & Radeon RX 5700 XT

This at least matches or just gives a rough idea that how these combos might work with actual Gonzalo APU that is being designed by AMD.

The 3DMark Fire Strike results tell us the Gonzalo configuration is around 10% down from the stock settings.

On the other hand, the Graphics score is down by just 6% but the CPU dependent Physics score takes a hit with the limitations and is down nearly 20%.

Sony PlayStation 5 emulation ft AMD Ryzen 7 3700X & Radeon RX 5700 XT

If the real PS5 scores such a kind of result even tough being a game console then it will truly be amazing. Having 8 cores of the efficient & powerful Zen 2 architecture along with the promising RDNA architecture.

We may see an RTX 2070/ RTX 2080 like graphics performance on this upcoming gaming console due to AMD’s insane optimizations and architectural improvements. This also means that AMD’s promise of delivering 4K graphics at 60FPS will also be true but no words on Ray Tracing which was also promised earlier this year.

Though this info was just an emulation but no to forget that AMD will be using it’s Zen 2 cores along with Navi GPUs. So, we cannot actually predict the true performance by the upcoming APU but yes this gives a fair idea of the dream that seems achievable now.

Samsung begins mass production of 12GB LPDDR5 Mobile DRAM ahead of Note 10 launch

0

Electronic giant Samsung this day announced that it will be mass-producing industry’s first-ever 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM. This leverages AI and 5G features in future smartphones.

This LPDDR5 memory has been built on the second-generation 10-nm class process, and Samsung plans to start mass-producing 12GB LPDDR5 packages from later this month, each combining eight of the 12GB chips.

Samsung even claims that the new 12Gb LPDDR5 memory supports a data rate of 5,500 megabits per second (Mb/s). This is up to 1.3 times faster than the current-generation LPDDR4X memory with 4266Mb/s transfer speed.

“When made into a 12GB package, the LPDDR5 is able to transfer 44GB of data, or about 12 full-HD (3.7GB-sized) movies, in only a second”

Samsung

The company also promises that the new memory will draw 30% less power even operating at high memory speeds by integrating a new circuit design. Apart from powering gaming smartphones, this memory module can also pave its way for next-generation flagship smartphones.

Next-gen flagship smartphones will also use 5G and AI capabilities implemented by this 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM like ultra-high-definition video recording and machine learning even tough drawing less power.

Now depending on the demand, Samsung might be transferring its 12GB LPDDR5 DRAM production unit to its Pyeongtaek (Korea) campus expectedly by next year to manage better production. Samsung is also preparing a 16GB LPDDR5 memory for launch to solidify its competitive edge in the global memory market.

Juventus have finally signed Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax

Juventus have won the race to sign Ajax skipper Matthijs de Ligt for around €85.5m ahead of Barcelona and PSG.

Juventus have confirmed that they have signed the much-coveted Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax for an initial €75m on a five-year contract. They will pay a further €10.5m in add-ons. Agent Mino Raiola has also received €10m for his part in the deal.

De Ligt’s five-year contract is worth up to €12m-a-year and possesses a €150m release clause, which should become active in the year 2022. De Ligt, a powerful, commanding and technically gifted center-back, rose to the limelight during the last season with Ajax reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, as well as claiming a domestic double under coach Erik ten Hag. But he now faces a task of justifying a fee of €85.5m, that makes him the most expensive under-20 defender of all time.

Matthijs de Ligt arrived at Ajax at the age of nine. He played in the Europa League final at the age of 17. Now he is 19-years-old and has already captained them to a domestic double and a Champions League semi-final last season.
Ajax paid a stunning tribute to their homegrown boy: “Hello as a little boy, GoldenBye as a captain.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Moise Kean and Juventus’ wingers are capable of breaking through any defences, especially in Serie A. Along with all the stalwarts of Juventus, they now have De Ligt who is an aerial ace capable of climbing above any pack. The 19-year-old scored seven goals for Ajax last season: three in the Eredivisie, one against rivals Feyenoord in the KNVB Beker, and a further three in the Champions League. Six of those goals were headed, including the towering effort which knocked Juventus out of Europe while he also nodded in an equaliser for Netherlands in their Nations League victory over England in the semi-final.

De Ligt and Ronaldo

Juventus have brought in a worthy heir to club icon Giorgio Chiellini, who will be celebrating his 35th birthday in August. Sarri’s biggest decision will revolve around his centre-back choices. Having worked with Daniele Rugani at Empoli, he might see more action and De Ligt can surely expect to feature regularly. An end to the Chiellini-Bonucci dynasty might not be far away.

De Ligt will now travel with his new teammates to Asia, where they will take part in this year’s International Champions Cup.

Atletico Madrid have signed Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier is now an Atletico Madrid player.

Kieran Trippier has now replaced long-time Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran, who left the club at the end of the season. The LaLiga side have confirmed via their official Twitter account that the defender has joined from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth around €22m.

The England full-back, who made 114 appearances through a four-season stint at the north London club after arriving from Burnley, has signed a three-year contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Trippier had been one of the most impressive performers as England finished fourth at the World Cup in Russia last summer, scoring early in the semi-final defeat to Croatia in Moscow, but endured a difficult season last time out as his form dipped. That culminated in him missing out on selection for the Nations League campaign in Portugal last month, with Trent Alexander-Arnold having now usurped him in the pecking order.

Kieran Trippier

The 28-year-old had admitted towards the end of last season that his future at Tottenham was in doubt, with Mauricio Pochettino intent upon reshaping his squad for what he has called the “next chapter” of the team’s development.

Atletico Madrid said in a statement on their website: “With this signing, we add to our team a fantastic and experienced player who comes to us from the Champions League runners-up. The Englishman is a versatile full-back who can also play in midfield and has a fantastic right foot.
Because of all this, we welcome Trippier to the Atleti Family and wish him the best of luck at his new home.”

Kieran Trippier

Trippier becomes the first Englishman to play for Atletico Madrid in nearly 100 years. The Manchester City academy graduate joins the centre-half Felipe, secured from Porto and left-back Renan Lodi, previously with Athletico Paranaense. The Spanish club have also secured Joao Felix from Benfica and Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid while selling Antoine Griezmann to the LaLiga champions Barcelona.
