Barcelona Complete Signing Of Antoine Griezmann For €120 Million

Barcelona has paid the €120 million (£108 million) buyout clause to release Griezmann from his Atletico Madrid contract. He’s put pen to paper on a five-year deal, through to 30 June 2024 with a buyout clause of €800 million.

The 28-year-old turned down a move to Barca in June last year as he opted to extend his Atletico contract. However, Griezmann informed the Madrid side of his desire to leave the Spanish capital following five years.

Griezmann becomes the world’s sixth most expensive transfer behind Ousmane Dembele, Joao Felix, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Neymar.

He has enjoyed his five seasons at Atletico Madrid following his move from Real Sociedad in 2014. He scored 133 goals in all competitions during his prolific spell in the Spanish capital, where he won the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and the Spanish Super Cup.

The 28-year-old becomes the club’s fourth signing of the summer after Emerson, Frenkie de Jong and Neto. They remain in the market for another attacker with Neymar heavily linked with a sensational return to Catalunya.

Ernesto Valverde now boasts a wealth of attacking options in the shape of club captain Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Malcom and of course, Griezmann.

Barcelona are expected to present Griezmann at the Camp Nou next week, with the club set to announce official details of his presentation in due course.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid already have signed the replacement for their departing Frenchman in the form of Joao Felix. The Portugal international was brought in from SL Benfica earlier this month for a fee of €126 Million.

World Cup semifinal – India vs New Zealand: The tactical blunders and the controversies

India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in a low scoring thriller. See what Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Kevin Pietersen has to say about the match!

The rain has played spoilsport in many matches in this World Cup in England. The semi-final match between India and New Zealand was no different. India bowled brilliantly to reduce New Zealand to 211/5 in 46.1 overs before the rain arrived in the first semifinal at Old Trafford Stadium, in Manchester. After hours of deliberation and covers coming on and off a number of times, as per the playing conditions, the match went into the reserve day, that is Wednesday (10th July) with New Zealand starting from where they left on 211/5. Ravindra Jadeja produced some brilliant fielding to restrict New Zealand to 239/8.

Kohli

What followed after that was a top notch bowling display from Matt Henry and Trent Boult to sent the famous top order of the Indian batting line up back to the pavilion. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli scored 1 each before going back to the pavilion. Rishabh Pant somewhat took charge of India’s proceedings. He played with maturity and patience. But got out because of his trademark poor shot selection. The young left-hander decided to slog sweep Mitchell Santner but ended up handing an easy catch to Colin de Grandhomme at deep mid-wicket.

The tactical blunder

Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik were sent ahead of Dhoni after India were reduced to five for three and then 24 for four.

VVS Laxman said: “Dhoni should have come ahead of Pandya. It was a tactical blunder. Dhoni should have walked ahead of Dinesh Karthik. The stage was set for Dhoni. In 2011 final also, he promoted himself up to bat at number four ahead of Yuvraj Singh and won the World Cup.
The one criticism (for selectors) is that they fiddled around the middle order. You can’t always depend on Rohit and Virat.”

Dhoni and Jadeja

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that it’s not just about Dhoni’s batting but also his calming influence on the young batsmen at the other end. He told Star Sports: “India needed experience at that stage. If Dhoni was there when Pant was batting, he would not have allowed Pant to play that shot against the breeze. In England, it’s a big factor. He would have told him to go after pacer when mid-off and mid-on are up because he is good at that.
Dhoni should have batted up. You need that composure and not just his batting. He would not have allowed wickets to fall in cluster. Dhoni was there when Jadeja batted. Communication is strength. You can’t have Dhoni at number seven.
As a finisher, he still has tremendous respect. He can still clear the field and that’s why he left it for last. It’s not that he can’t hit sixes but he thinks that’s the way to win ODI matches.”

The iconic Sachin Tendulkar, too, felt it was a mistake to not send Dhoni up the order. He said: “The question here can be, in a crunch moment like this, would you not think of promoting Dhoni with experience on his back? Towards the end, he kept talking to (Ravindra) Jadeja and he was controlling things. Maybe instead of Hardik, Dhoni should have come up. Batting Dinesh Karthik at number 5 was slightly out of the box I felt.”

Dhoni

Ganguly further said the biggest mistake the Indian selectors made in the last one and a half year was not finding a solid middle order. He said: “What India need to do is to push Rishabh Pant to number five. Kohli can bat at number four if KL Rahul is a solution at number three when Shikhar Dhawan comes back. India will have to identify the middle order batsmen and persist with them.
That’s the only mistake selectors made. You can’t depend on Jadeja (to win matches by leaving it for lower order).”

The controversy

MS Dhoni’s dismissal was the turning point of the match. Dhoni got run out when he was about to change the gear with India needing 25 runs off the 10 deliveries at Old Trafford. Livid fans, however, blamed an umpiring error for his dismissal and questioned New Zealand’s field placement. MS Dhoni was at the crease with ample expectations from Indian fans. Dhoni had done such jobs many times before and he had plans to execute this one too. The 49th over was on with Lockie Ferguson bowling.
India fans shared videos and pictures of television screens just before that very ball on which Dhoni was dismissed. It showed that there were six New Zealand fielders outside the inner circle while only five fielders are allowed.

The run out would have been given even if umpires had called the no-ball but people claimed Dhoni’s approach would have been different if he had known that it was a no-ball. The enraged fans came down heavily on umpires and New Zealand team using unethical ways to win games.
After the dismissal, India’s World Cup dreams ended as they were bowled out for 221 in 49.3 overs.

10th Gen Intel CPUs based on 14+++nm specs leaked, no signs of 10nm CPUs

0

Intel’s answer to AMD: New Comet Lake CPUs based on 14+++nm process specs leaked, 5.2GHz max single-core boost & up to 10 cores at $499

AMD’s new Ryzen 3000 series processors have put an alarm to the market leaders off recently. Intel, who is still struggling with its 10nm desktop CPUs managed to squeeze out 10nm mobile CPUs with up to 4 cores only.

Everyone expected the upcoming 10th gen desktop CPUs to be based on the refined 10nm process. But now leaks suggest the faith we were putting on Intel was completely useless.

New Intel 9th Generation Core Processors launched

When AMD has already brought the 7nm processors to the market, Intel couldn’t even shift to 10nm process on the desktop end. So, to cope up with the red team Intel yet again followed their way old 14nm process and added another “+”.

These upcoming CPUs will be known as Comet Lake CPUs, leveraging the 14+++nm node. Though we have no assurance if this is right or wrong still gives an idea what Intel is up to.

According to the leaked Comet Lake desktop CPU lineup, we see 13 of them in total with two of those F processors lacking the iGPU:

10th Gen Intel CPUs based on 14+++nm specs leaked, no signs of 10nm CPUs

10th Gen Intel Core i3

The next-gen Core i3 has got pretty decent improvement with all of them having 4 cores and 8 threads. There are a total of 4 models – i3-10100, i3-10300, i3-10320 and the i3-10350K priced at $129, $149, $159, $179 respectively.

If the final prices are pretty close to these then we can say that Intel is trying to get back to the price-to-performance ratio market currently dominated by AMD.

Intel has even set a base clock of 4.0GHz for the i3-10320 and highest up to 4.7GHz and an all-core boost of 4.5GHz which is pretty decent considering this to be a low budget CPU.

The unlocked i3-10350K CPU has a base clock of 4.1GHz and up to 4.8GHz boost clock and an all-core boost of whopping 4.6GHz.

10th Gen Intel CPUs based on 14+++nm specs leaked, no signs of 10nm CPUs

10th Gen Intel Core i5

Here we see 4 variants of the next-gen Core i5 series: i5-10400, i5-10500, i5-10600 and the i5-10600K. Here we see Intel to use 6 cores for each of these CPUs as well as enable multithreading.

These CPUs have been priced at $179, $199, $229, $269 respectively. If this is true, this will be the first time ever that Intel will be pricing its CPU such aggressively.

The lower end Core i5s have a modest 3.0,3.1,3.2GHz base clock speed and a pretty impressive boost clock of 4.4,4.6,4.8GHz respectively that too at a low TDP of just 65W.

The only unlocked Core i5-10600K has a high base clock of 3.7GHz and a whopping 4.9GHz boost along with 4.6GHz clock speed on all-cores. Running at such high clock speeds with 6 cores and 12 threads, it will be pretty much interesting to see how these CPUs actually perform.

10th Gen Intel CPUs based on 14+++nm specs leaked, no signs of 10nm CPUs

10th Gen Intel Core i7

Surprisingly, there are only two 10th Gen Core i7 CPUs: the i7-10700 and the i7-10700K. To compete with AMD this time Intel has embedded all 8 cores and 16 threads on i7 CPUs for the first time.

Being priced at $339, $389 respectively, these CPUs will be very much competitive. The Core i7-10700 and Core i7-10700K have a base clock of 3.1GHz and 3.6GHz and 4.9GHz and 5.1GHz boost clock speeds respectively.

Also, both of these CPUs have a high all-core boost clock of 4.6GHz and 4.8GHz respectively. TDP ratings of these CPUs are 65W and 95W only which is pretty amazing considering the fact these are based on the same old 14nm architecture.

10th Gen Intel CPUs based on 14+++nm specs leaked, no signs of 10nm CPUs

10th Gen Intel Core i9

To defend its “most powerful CPU” throne, Intel has first time implemented 10 cores and 20 threads i9 CPUs. These CPUs are devoid of iGPU to cut down the cost.

There are three models of these CPUs: i9-10800F, i9-10900F and the i9-10900KF, priced at $409, $449 and $499 respectively. The base i9 model has only 65W TDP and a base clock of 2.7GHz and a boost of 5.0GHz.

The i9-10900F has an impressive 3.2GHz base clock speed and boost up to 5.1GHz. What’s really impressive is that all the 10 cores have a simultaneous boost clock of 4.4GHz with a TDP of 95W only.

Intel announces Core i9-9900KS - 5GHz boost on all 8 Cores

The flagship Core i9-10900KF is an unlocked model with 3.4GHz base clock speed and a whopping boost clock speed of 5.1GHz. Being rated at only 105W, this CPU can achieve an all-core boost of 4.6GHz.

Apart from cores and clock speeds, these new CPUs leverages increased memory support, now up to dual-channel DDR4 at 3200MHz. Up to Core i7, these CPUs have the improved Intel UHD 730 integrated graphics, but not the recently announced Gen 11 graphics.

Also, these CPUs are based on a new LGA 1159 socket, which means you have to again buy a new motherboard to support them.

Intel to launch new Pentium Gold CPU with up to 4 GHz clock speed

If all these specs go right and if the prices go near to what the leaks say then these CPUs will again help Intel to regain the trust of its consumers. Though Intel did not keep its promise of implementing the 10nm process, yes they have extracted much out its old lithography.

I wonder when Intel will be able to leverage its 10nm architecture, but until then AMD is surging high with its cheap and powerful Ryzen 3000 series CPUs. After seeing these leaks, I can assure that Intel is also finding a way to cope up its top-selling desktop CPU spot which they lost a year ago.

Leicester City have signed Youri Tielemans from Monaco for a club-record fee

Youri Tielemans signed a four-year deal with Leicester City and joined for a club-record fee of €45m.

Leicester City have signed Belgium international Youri Tielemans from Monaco on a permanent basis for a club-record fee of €45m. The 22-year-old impressed during his short-term loan with the Foxes last season, notching up three goals and five assists in 13 appearances.

Youri Tielemans becomes Leicester City’s record signing, surpassing the €33 m they paid for Ayoze Perez last month. Tielemans chose to join the Foxes despite heavy interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

Yielemans told to the club’s official website: “It’s a great feeling to sign for this club. Ever since I arrived on loan last season, all the players, the staff and the fans have been fantastic with me. I believe that we have the talent in our squad to achieve something special. I really can’t wait to get started again and do everything I can to help my team-mates.”

He further explained why he chose to join Leicester City: “It feels great, honestly, because the second part of the season went very good for me and for the team as well. That’s what I wanted and I wanted to keep it like that – playing in a positive mood and a positive club with a lot of ambition and a lot of potential too. I’m really happy to be here.
I’ve let myself [have] some time to think, to get the positive things. For me, after the international break, it was clear for me that I wanted to come here. That’s why we got the deal done.
I think it’s important to not rush yourself in a decision. For me, it was clear I wanted to make a pre-season with a club I was playing with for the whole season… that’s an important thing. If you are with your club in pre-season, then during the season it will come automatically. It was important for me.”

Tielemans

Tielemans also mentioned that he is looking forward to further develop his relationship with manager Brendan Rodgers. He said: “We’ve talked about the season and what he wants from me and what he expects from me. I know we will make some good progression together and we will enjoy our time together because I’m sure it will go really well.
I think I’ve done really well since I’ve been here, but the main thing is always to do better. That’s why I’m here. To make myself better, but also the team too. I’m here to give myself 100 per cent and to play my best football. I’m just going to enjoy myself and get the legs ready for the rest of the season.”

Youri Tielemans is a fantastic signing for Leicester City. It’s surprising that other clubs weren’t pushing for his signature. His vision is outrageous. He also offers goals from midfield. Leicester City are now essentially top four contenders for the next season.

India need to score how many runs to go to the Finals,if New Zealand do not bat again?

0

Rain stopped play with India in control against New Zealand in their semi-final at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The rain stopped play with 3.5 overs left in New Zealand’s innings in their semi-final against India at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday. There was a threat of rain on the semi-final and it finally stopped play with New Zealand on 211 for 5.

Rain has come back to haunt cricket fans in the World Cup 2019 and that too in the first semi-final itself between India and New Zealand in Manchester.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. They merely able to score runs at a rate of 3.5.

Kane Williamson scored a steady half century, before he fall at 67 to Yuzvendra Chahal. Williamson lead New Zealand’s fightback after Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had started off well for India.

Bumrah struck early to remove Martin Guptill. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a marvelous delivery and took the wicket of Henry Nicholls. Jadeja broke his dangerous stand with Williamson.

After the wicket of Nicholls, Ross Taylor and Williamson took charge. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were looking to knuckle down before Yuzvendra Chahal removed the New Zealand captain.

Play had to be stopped after 46.1 overs in the first innings when New Zealand had reached 211 for 5 with Ross Taylor (67*) and Tom Latham (3*) on strike. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal had picked up a wicket each till that point for India.

Now, if New Zealand does not get to bat again (they are currently 211 for 5 off 46.1 overs), how much does India need to chase down?

In that case, India’s DLS-adjusted target for 46 overs would be 237.

More significantly, India will need to score 148 according to their DLS target if their innings is reduced to 20 overs.

In case New Zealand doesn’t bat again, India’s target in
46 overs will be 237
40 overs will be 223
35 overs will be 209
30 overs will be 192
25 overs will be 172
20 overs will be 148

Sunil Chhetri: The man who revolutionised Indian Football

Sunil Chhetri has surpassed Messi to become the second-highest active international goalscorer in the world.

India is famous for its cricketing exploits. Though, the country has a huge football loving fan base, still it lies at the bottom of the FIFA rankings at around 100. So it’s quite unnatural for an Indian footballer to grab the international headlines. But, Sunil Chhetri has defied all the odds and has made numerous headlines in his career.

Sunil Chhetri recently became India’s most-capped international footballer. Along with that last Sunday, during the India vs Tajikistan match, he scored 2 goals to grab the coveted title. The highest active international goalscorer in the world is Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo right now – with 88 goals to his name. He leads the list by a massive margin. Chhetri at the second position has 70 goals. Messi has 68 goals.

Football is overshadowed to a large extent by cricket in India. Belonging to such a country where you don’t get your deserved support, Chhetri has done the impossible. Messi is one of the best players to ever enter a football field. He has won the Ballon d’Or a record 5 times. So, breaking someone like Messi’s record and surpassing him, means a lot. Sunil Chhetri is like the King of Indian Football. What he has done for Indian football is absolutely remarkable. He’s one of the few Indian footballers, very few actually, to have made their presence felt on an international platform.

In India’s match against Tajikistan, Chhetri started the scoring by putting a calm ‘Panenka’ penalty into the back of the net. The 34-year-old then kept his nerves and slotted home the ball from Mandar Rao Desai in the 41st minute to give India a 2-0 lead on the brink of half-time. But unfortunately, India lost to Tajikistan by 4-2 due to their terrible defence in the second half. But there’s no denying the fact that it was yet again a masterful performance from the captain Sunil Chhetri.

Sunil Chhetri’s footballing career:

Sunil Chhetri was born on 3rd August 1984 in Secunderabad, India. He is the captain of both the Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC and the Indian national team. He is popularly known as Captain Fantastic. He has scored a record 70 goals in 109 appearances for India. Sunil Chhetri was named an ‘Asian Icon’ by AFC on his 34th birthday.

Chhetri began his professional career at Mohun Bagan in 2002. He moved to JCT a few years later where he scored 21 goals in 48 games. Chhetri then signed for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer in 2010, becoming the third player from the subcontinent of note to go abroad. However, that stint in the United States did not last long and soon he was back in India’s I-League where he played for Chirag United and Mohun Bagan before going back abroad. This time he was signed by Sporting Clube de Portugal of the Primeira Liga where he played for the club’s reserve side. Now, he is back again in India, breaking and creating records with Bengaluru FC.

Sunil Chhetri helped India win the 2007 Nehru Cup, 2009 Nehru Cup, the 2012 Nehru Cup as well as the 2011 SAFF Championship. He was also one of India’s best players during the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup in which India won the tournament and thus qualified for their first AFC Asian Cup in 27 years. Chhetri has also been named AIFF Player of the Year five times in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017.

Chhetri has received the Arjuna Award in 2011 by the Government of India in recognition of his outstanding achievement in sports. He was also awarded the Padma Shri award in 2019, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.

Top 11 highest goalscorers of all time

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are modern day greats! But where do they stand among the all-time highest goalscorers in football history? Let’s have a look.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are both arguably the greatest players of all time. They have a phenomenal goalscoring record. But surprisingly they are not even in the top 5 of the all-time highest goalscorers list! So who tops the list?

According to the Guinness world record, Pele is the greatest goalscorer with a staggering tally of 1,281 goals. However, this figure also includes unofficial goals scored by the Brazilian legend. Our list has been compiled based on the records from Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF), which only recognises goals scored in official matches – meaning that contrary to Guinness’ records, Pele isn’t number 1 on this list.

Top 11 highest goalscorers of all time

Note: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still actively playing and scoring goals at a rate which could see them top the list. So some numbers may vary depending on when you are reading this.
Also, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already reached the 500 goals club. He now has 525 goals in 899 matches. Therefore, it won’t be surprising if he finishes his career in the top 11 highest goalscorers list.

Josef Bican

1. Josef Bican (Czech Republic – Austria) | 805 goals

Very few people know the name of Josef Bican, but yet he has scored the most number of goals in official matches, till date. Bican was a two-footed forward blessed with sprinter-like pace. He was able to run 100 metres in 10.8 seconds, which was as fast as many sprinters of the time.
Bican was a member of the Austrian Wunderteam in the 1930s and reached the 1934 World Cup semi-finals. He played for 3 different Nations – Austria (1933-36), Czech Republic (1938-49), and Bohemia and Moravia in 1939.

At the club level, Bican was the top scorer across Europe’s various leagues on 5 different occasions. He played for multiple Austrian clubs before playing for a number of Czech clubs, including Dynamo Prague. He continued playing until 1955, eventually retiring at the age of 42. At the time of his retirement, Bican has scored an incredible 805 goals in just 530 matches at an astonishing rate of 1.52 goals per match.

Bican’s teammates said that he has scored more than 5000 goals. He has not also denied the fact, rather said: “Who’d have believed me if I said I’d scored five times as many goals as Pele?”
The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) awarded Bican the “Golden Ball” as the greatest goalscorer of the last century. He is the only person in the history of the game to score 7 goals in a game on three different occasions.

Romario

2. Romario (Brazil) | 772 goals

Romario began his career with Vasco da Gama in 1985. He then moved to PSV Eindhoven. He played there for 5 years. Romario played for many clubs including Barcelona, Valencia, Miami FC and Flamengo.
Romario played for Brazil between 1987 and 2005 and won the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Another Brazilian legend Ronaldo said that he learnt the art of goalscoring from Romario. Johann Cruyff described Romario as “a genius” in the penalty area. Romario scored 772 goals in 993 matches in his 24 years career.

Pele

3. Pele (Brazil) | 761 goals

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, fondly known as Pele, is probably the greatest footballer of all time. In the 1958 World Cup, a 17 year and 239-day old Brazilian striker emerged as probably the greatest prodigy of all time. He has won three World Cups in 1958, 1962 and 1970, the only player in the world to achieve such a feat.

Pele began his senior career in 1956 with Santos and stayed there for 18 seasons. He then moved to the NALS to play for New York Cosmos alongside German legend, Franz Beckenbauer, before calling time on his stunning career.

Contrary to Guinness’ records that state he scored 1,271 goals by the end of his breathtaking career, Pele had officially scored 761 goals in 821 matches.

Ferenc Puskas

4. Ferenc Puskas (Hungary) | 746 goals

Puskas was the lynchpin of the all-conquering “Magical Magyars” and led the Hungary team to unprecedented success. They once went on an unbeaten 32-game streak, winning the 1952 Olympics along the way.

He played for only two clubs in his career – Hungarian side, Budapest Honved (1943-55), and Spanish side, Real Madrid (1958-66). Puskas formed a deadly combination with the great Alfredo Di Stefano during his stint at Real Madrid as they the duo tore up defences and guided the Los Blancos to five straight league titles and three European Cups. The legendary Hungarian striker was LaLiga’s top scorer for 4 seasons in a row.

Puskas known as ‘The Galloping Major’, blessed with a thunderous left foot and superb positioning skills, scored 746 goals in 754 matches.

Gerd Muller

5. Gerd Muller (Germany) | 735 goals

Gerd Muller is arguably the most lethal finisher in the history of football. The German striker spent the better parts of his career in Germany, playing for 1861 Nordlingen and Bayern Munich. Muller represented West Germany between 1966 and 1974. He won the European Championship in 1972 and the FIFA World Cup in 1974.

Cristiano Ronaldo

6. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) | 707 goals

One of the two standout players of this generation, Cristiano Ronaldo is easily one of the greatest players of all time. After starting out as a fleet-footed winger, Cristiano Ronaldo has transformed himself into a goalscoring machine. He has won the Ballon d’Or 5 times, a record he shares with Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo came into the limelight with Manchester United. He then moved to Real Madrid for a then world record fee. At Real Madrid, Ronaldo became one of the best footballers of all time, winning 15 major trophies in 9 seasons, including the historic feat of winning 3 consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. The Portuguese superstar has broken one record after another, posting tallies in the Champions League that may never be surpassed. Last summer, he moved to Juventus and has already started winning titles in Italy.

Cristiano helped Portugal to win the Euro 2016 and also the first-ever Nations League final in 2019. The two international trophies somewhat help Ronaldo to edge past Messi as the greatest player of this generation. This is arguably the greatest rivalry we have ever seen in football. Ronaldo has till date scored 707 goals in 998 matches and hopes to finish his career by topping this list.

Messi

7. Lionel Messi (Argentina) | 698 goals

Lionel Messi is a product of Barcelona’s famed youth academy, La Masia. He has been a one-club man, playing his 16th season with Barcelona. Along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi has defined this current generation. He has also won 5 Ballon d’Or.

Messi has also represented the Argentinian senior team since 2005 and is currently their 3rd-most capped player and highest goalscorer of all time. He is regarded as the greatest footballer of all time by many, but the lack of an international trophy somewhat pushes him behind the other greats of football. He has scored 698 goals in 875 matches. Messi’s position will definitely be much closer to the top when he calls time on his illustrious career.

Ferenc Deak

8. Ferenc Deak (Hungary) | 576 goals

Ferenc Deak’s achievements have been overshadowed by his fellow Hungarian Ferenc Puskas, but Deak himself was a supreme goalscorer. He was born in Budapest, Hungary. He spent his entire playing career at a plethora of Hungarian clubs. He began his senior career with Szentlorinci AC, where he scored an astonishing 220 goals in 72 appearances. Then he played for Ferencvarosi TC, Ujpest, and Spartacus Budapest among others.

Deak also scored 29 goals for his country. But it is not known how many matches he played at the highest level. Ferenc Deak ended his career with a grand total of 576 goals. He was named the Hungarian footballer of the year in 1946. But the second world war prevented Deak from playing more for Hungary, otherwise, this legendary goalscorer might have well been higher up on this list.

Uwe Seeler

9. Uwe Seeler (Germany) | 575 goals

Uwe Seeler was born in Hamburg, Germany. Uwe Seeler played 18 seasons for Hamburg (1954-72) and eventually became a one-club legend. Renowned for his aerial prowess and spectacular scissors-kicks, he is one of the finest forwards Germany has ever produced.

11. Arthur Friedenreich (Brazil) | 557 goals

The Brazilian striker played for an astonishing 26 years from 1909-1935. He was the Copa America player of the tournament and the golden boot winner in 1919.

However, he never represented Brazil in a World Cup as there was a serious misunderstanding between the Football Leagues of the States of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. He was nicknamed the ‘Tiger’ and was the game’s first outstanding black player. Unfortunately, he had to face many barriers and widespread racism throughout his career. He played a starring role in Brazil’s 1919 and 1922 Copa America campaign and he was crowned as the “King of football” in Brazil’s 1925 tour of Europe.

Many consider the late Arthur Friedenreich as the greatest goalscorer in football history with 1,329 goals. But that tally included many friendlies and amateur level matches. He officially scored 557 goals in his career.
