TSMC’s 3nm process to enter mass production from 2H 2022

0

The Taiwanese semiconductor giant aka TSMC has been the pioneer in the silicon industry with an efficient manufacturing process and obviously its innovation in the field that has gained trust from its wide range of clients including Qualcomm, Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, MediaTek, and others.

Not only TSMC pioneered its N7 and N5 process nodes, now its ready to showcase the power of its future N3 node. At its annual Technology Symposium, the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer gave the complete characteristics of its future 3nm process node as well.

TSMC also laid out a roadmap for the 5nm successors in the form of N5P and N4 process nodes. Currently, if you are aware, TSMC is shipping N5 or 5nm nodes to its worldwide clients, so the next set of innovative chips will be using TSMC’s tech for better performance and efficiency.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

N5 & N5P

TSMC’s N5 process node represents its 2nd generation deep-ultraviolet (DUV) and extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) process node.

The company said N5 currently is progressing with defect densities one quarter ahead of its previous-gen N7. Also, the new node has better yields at the time of mass production than their predecessors i.e. N7 and N10 (7nm and 10nm).

The projected defect density is also supposed to keep improving when compared to previous generations. Beyond N5, TSMC is planning to make the N5P node which still uses the current N5 process however with more improvements.

The Taiwanese foundry expects the upcoming N5P process node to have 5% performance gain and a 10% power reduction as compared to the current 5nm process.

N4

Most of us were confused about whether TSMC will be opting for the 4nm process or not. Previously, some officials did confess that it plans N4 but never made it public, however now, N4 node is in TSMC’s plans publically.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

The N4 node brings further evolution from the N5 process, engaging further EUV layers to reduce masks. So, the N4 will enter risk production in 4Q21 while for volume production TSMC plans later in 2022.

N3

One of the most exciting disclosure is got to be the N3 node or 3nm process which TSMC has been working on for a long time now along with its rival Samsung. TSMC will be sticking with its FinFET transistors for N3, relying on “innovative features” to enable them to achieve the full-node scaling as pointed out by Anandtech.

If raw performance and efficiency are to be considered, the N3 node promises to give better performance by 10-15% than the N5 at the same power levels or plans to reduce the power draw by 25-30% at the same transistor speeds.

TSMC plans to start N3 node risk production in 2021 while entering volume production by 2H 2022.

Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro: Everything you need to know about these phones

0

The new Asus Zenfone 7 Pro uses the same Snapdragon 865+ chipset as the ROG phone 3. But Zenfone 7 Pro as well as the normal version are not the gaming phones. This time, the main focus of Asus is its camera. Both phones are launched today in Taiwan.

Asus is step by step improving its flip-up camera first by adding a telephoto zoom lens, and also improving the flip-up mechanism itself. In this phone, Asus uses a smaller motor that has more than double the torque. Camera and main body connection are improved and rated for 100 flips a day for 5 years straight. Also, once open, it can withstand 35 kg of weight pushing it forward.

a2 1 Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro: Everything you need to know about these phones

Camera

Coming to its camera, the telephoto cam has an 80mm lens, which means you will get 3x optical zoom by this. An extra advantage of Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is its telephoto camera has optical image stabilization. That means. less shaky and sharp images you can click. On the vanilla model, neither camera has optical image stabilization.

It has a main camera of a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with 2×1 OCL autofocus. You can shoot 8K videos at 30 fps and 120 fps slow motion is supported at 4K. Night mode has also been improved with HDR video mode.

a3 1 Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro: Everything you need to know about these phones

Apart from its main camera, it has a 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle camera that uses the IMX363 sensor. This wide-angle camera offers autofocus, which is very rare for ultra wides. Also, it has Dual Pixel AF to boot. This sensor is capable to shoot 4K videos, which is used in HyperSteady Video mode. This camera also doubles as a macro lens, the autofocus system can focus at just 4 cm distance.

Stellar selfies is another interesting and rare feature of Zenfone 7 duo. It has the large 1/1.72″ sensor plus dual ED flash. Still most of the flagship phones do not have the auto focus technology on their front cameras. As it is a flip-up camera, you can record 8K/30 fps and 4K/120 fps selfie videos. Also, you can use the ultrawide sensor to click wide selfies.

Display

Coming to the display of this phone, both the Zenfone 7 smartphones use a Samsung-made AMOLED panel, a 6.67-inch huge screen, and protected by Gorilla Glass 6. The resolution of the screen is 1080+ (20:9), a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, DC dimming for flicker-free low-brightness operation, plus Always On mode, 110% DCI-P3 coverage and an accurate color calibration out of the box.

Refresh rate of the screen is 90Hz and 200Hz touch sampling rate. This phone is powered by the S865+ chipset on the pro model, and that’s why you can play such powerful games without lag just like a gaming phone. The vanilla model is also powered by S865, but it is non plus in this model.

Storage

Zenfone 7 has two variants of RAM (6GB and 8GB) and Zenfone 7 Pro comes up with only 8GB RAM. Storage is UFS 3.1, 128GB for the vanilla model, and 256GB for the Pro model. Both have triple card slots. Two slots for dual SIMs and most importantly, a dedicated slot for microSD. Both the phones also support 5G connectivity, if it wasn’t clear from the chipset.

Battery and Charging

Coming to its battery part, there is a major improvement in this year’s model, which is the 30W fast charging support for the 5,000 mAH battery. 34 minutes of charging gets you from completely drained to 60%. If we compare it with Zenfone 6 (18W charging), Zenfone 6 needed 57 minutes to accomplish the same.

Also you can control your charging limit in this phone, just like other ROG phones from Asus. You can limit the maximum charge to 80% or 90% and also we can set a charging schedule so it goes slowly at night and fast charging in the morning. So, in the case of charging, you will have absolutely zero issue.

The Zenfone 7 duo is pretty sturdy with a series 6000 aluminium body, between two layers of glass. Also there is a support of GG6 on the front and GG3 on the back – Corning’s mot scratch-resistant glass.

Others

These phones have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. As the Zenfone duo has an OLED display, on display fingerprint sensor was not a bad option too. But it was the choice of the officials to make it side-mounted. Unfortunately, the 3.5 mm headphone jack was axed. But, you will get aptX Adaptive support.

a4 Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro: Everything you need to know about these phones

Price and Availability

The Asus will provide the Asus active cases to protect the phone and its flip-up camera. You don’t have to buy it. This case comes in the box itself. Coming to its release date, The Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro will be released globally on September 1.

Model RAM storage Cost

Zenfone 7 6GB 128GB NT$21,990/ €635/ $750 (debut in Taiwan market)

Zenfone 7 Pro 8GB 256GB NT$27,990/ €800/ $950 (debut in Taiwan market)

Global pricing will be confirmed in the upcoming weeks. As per officials, they may not be as cheap as we are hoping. These phones have such strong specifications which we can hardly find in most of the flagships. The OnePlus Pros also have stong specs but do not have expandable storage and costs are even more.

James Rodríguez close to joining the Merseyside Club

Everton is ready to bring James Rodríguez on a permanent deal from Real Madrid. Several reports claim that Everton will have to pay 20M for James.

According to Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano, ‘Real Madrid are in advanced talks with Everton for James Rodriguez to be sold in the next days. The deal is not done – but Carlo Ancelotti already contacted James to convince him.’

James joined Real Madrid in 2014 after his brilliant display in the 2014 World Cup. He won the World Cup golden boot that year. Every big European Club was interested to sign him then. But he chose Real Madrid.

However, he has struggled to secure his place in the team and became out of favor of their manager Zinedine Zidane. He was sent to Bayern Munich on loan for two seasons and won back to back Bundesliga with them. But nothing has changed after his return to Santiago Bernabeu.

In his four seasons with Real Madrid [excluding 2 years of the loan with Bayern Munich] he just made 85 appearances for them and scored only 29 goals. Last season he made only 8 appearances in La Liga.

The 29-year-old Colombian international wants a team where he can get much more game time to play. Everton can be a suitable destination for him. Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti brought him to Madrid and he likes James.

Now he wants the Colombian in Everton to compete in English Premier League. It will be a good addition to the Merseyside Club if the deal has been made.

LG Wing shown with Dual-screen Rotating display in video

0

LG has been showing us dual-screen smartphones along with other leading brands in the market. The foldable dial screen smartphones of LG are pretty expensive. Even with the trend of foldable smartphones are going on in the market the company is trying to keep up with it. The LG G8X is the last foldable smartphone from the company with dual screen display like the Microsoft Duo. It is now available at Rs.45,000 in Flipkart’s Qualcomm sale.

Recently a video shared by Android Authority shows a new design or prototype of a LG smartphone. The name is given LG Wing, might be because of its ‘T-shaped’ design that looks like a ‘Wing’ of the smartphone. To describe it properly, you have to understand that the phone has two segments, one that rotates and one that is the base which is still. In the video we can see a full view display said to be of 6.8-inches and a smaller display at the side of the phone, said to be of 4-inches.

Now coming to the mechanism, we can see the mobile holder in the car holding the tilted portion of the smartphone, which is originally the base of the smartphone. The upper portion of the phone is rotatable which has the larger screen and thus forming a ‘T-shaped’ design with the base which has a 4-inch display. The bigger screen has the normal primary display functions for the smartphone, the secondary screen can be used for other purposes to be accessed simultaneously.

This smartphone seems to be a prototype model of the smartphone. The phone seems to run the Google Maps in the main screen and the secondary screen is playing music and the call came later on displayed on the secondary small screen. Thus it seems the priority app is being displayed on the main display while the others get its place on the smaller one.

The phone is expected to have Snapdragon 765G this time with an upper mid-range chipset to reduce the cost of phone. Otherwise the Snapdragon 865 chipset along with this phone might have made it crazy expensive.
