Top 5 reasons why Messi wants to leave Barcelona

After spending about 20 years at the club, Lionel Messi, the greatest footballer of this generation wants to leave his dream club. Till now it was a joke and rumor which almost no one cared because Messi always wants to retire at Camp Nou.

However, this is the closest-ever this situation has gone through as Messi faxed the club on Tuesday that he wants to leave. The forward has a clause in his contract that allows him to walk away for free, after each season that expired on June 11.

Although this time the season has been stretched longer, so technically he can ask to leave for free. The shameless Barcelona board wants to go through a legal scrap with Messi this time. So, here are the top five reasons why Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona:

bartomeu messi Top 5 reasons why Messi wants to leave Barcelona

1. Bartomeu & his board

Bartomeu has been the sole reason for Barcelona’s weak situation and it is his fault in communicating with the team captain that has led to this situation. The board under Bartomeu has not taken things seriously around Messi and has framed him as the reason for the failure.

Even though Messi renewed his contract under Bartomeu’s board but has never appreciated the current board who has been ruling for 5 years now. Bartomeu has done a lot of bad things like paying the company to make his image clear and disrespect Messi & others, wasting careers of many players, making stupid decisions at the sports level.

However, Messi thought Bartomeu would have resigned after that Bayern defeat as respect to failure in running the club, no, he didn’t because Bartomeu thinks business instead of passion for football. He extended his stay to March and fired few people at the club to show the impression that things are getting better.

2. Valverde’s Exit

The Argentine star did always got on well with the coaches since 2004. From Rijkaard, Guardiola, Tata Martino, Tito, Luis Enrique (despite some arguments), and Valverde. Messi never liked the decision to fire Valverde and hiring Quique Setien was inexplicable for him.

Messi is a special player who cannot be thrown upon by any coach, the board should have respected his choice and brought a coach of his liking after sacking Valverde. Even after they brought Koeman, Messi is not satisfied because a coach is just a puppet for Bartomeu and his board.

Éric Abidal's contract has been terminated by the Barcelona board

3. Not at all satisfied with FC Barcelona’s Sports project

For the past few years, the board has totally done massacre with their decisions, selling La Masia players, spending astronomical money on transfers without proper planning, letting Neymar go for 222 million euros, and using that money like a child that lacks experience.

Messi has never got on well with Eric Abidal and his radical decisions taken by the Frenchman. There has been a lack of understanding between the board members & Leo Messi and the idea behind running the club.

4. The behavior with Luis Saurez

Messi and Saurez are more than friends on and off the pitch, so the recent developments with Saurez as he has been asked to leave by Koeman and the board over him has hurt Messi obviously. The Uruguayan striker has been the club’s third-highest goalscorer and terminating his contract has obviously hurt Saurez along with Messi.

The board wants to trigger the gun keeping it on the shoulders of few players instead of them taking the responsibility of what has happened till now. Luis Saurez deserves more respect to end his career at the club instead of just getting rid of him to decrease the wage bill.

Quique Setién admits the game against Bayern to be a very tough defeat & his future is at stake

5. No “winning project”, No more stay

Messi has always asked a winning project at the club each season but he has been offered only losses – Roma, Liverpool, and now Bayern Munich. FC Barcelona has lost the potential to win the Champions League trophy and so has Messi lost his patience.

He doesn’t want to spend the last few years of his playing career at a club who is least interested in winning rather than making FC Barcelona a form of business. Messi had the decision in his head but he was waiting to talk to Koeman first and as he is not convinced by the Dutchman’s project, Messi wants to leave the club.

It’s bitter news out there for any Barca fan, but the truth remains Messi wants to leave and his decision cannot change only if Bartomeu and his board resign, still there remains an uncertainty.
