Speaking to talkSPORT, Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett had some choice words for his agent’s treatment at the Spanish capital. Bale’s views aligned with those of his agent, as well who came out saying that he didn’t feel appreciated at Real Madrid.
Bale cost the club a then-record fee of €101 million. It is fair to say that he has more than lived up to the hype that surrounded his arrival at Madrid.
On being asked about whether Bale would want to stay at Spurs beyond his year-long loan deal, Barnett answered: “The most important thing is for him to enjoy his football and that he’s playing well. As long as that’s happening, it’ll all be fine.”
“He’s a mature man now and he knows what he wants out of life.”
“He’s probably the most successful footballer Britain has ever produced, and there’s lots of things he still wants to do with his life, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
“It was a fairly easy decision,” he added. “He had other choices but Tottenham is his love, he loves Tottenham and at the end of the day that’s the one he wanted.”
“It’s good to see him happy. If he was going to move this summer, it was only to somewhere where he could smile again and be happy – he wasn’t just going to move for the sake of it.”
“We had other clubs, maybe bigger clubs than Tottenham, interested, but he had to be happy with where he went and I think he is now.”
“It was all agreed his career at Real Madrid was over so it was quite easy once we realised it was serious.”
“It was a build-up of a clash of personalities, a build-up of not being supported, it was many different things.”
“For somebody who has done as well as he has for Real Madrid, he didn’t get the respect he deserved and that was a big problem.”
“What he’s achieved for Real Madrid, they should be kissing the floor that he walks on.”
Reviewing opinions
It is hard to argue with Barnett’s opinions, especially after the Welshman was starved for minutes under Zidane. He hasn’t played a single minute in 2020 for any club.
If you look at it from a neutral point of view, the fact that one of Real Madrid’s best players ever does not get the respect or the appreciation that he deserves is absolutely outrageous and shameful.
Bale has won four Champions League trophies at Madrid. In addition, he won the league title in 16/17, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and one each of the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Super Cup.
That alone is more than anything Spurs have ever won, and it is criminal to address Bale as anything less than a world-class talent.
Alongside the in-form duo of Son and Kane, Bale makes the front three one of the best in the league. One thing that is certain is the fact that the Wales captain will finally be able to get minutes on the pitch.
