Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 will launch on 1st December

0

Finally, dates have been announced of the Qualcomm’s annual December event where we will see the launch of their upcoming 5nm based flagship SoC – The Snapdragon 875. This is one of the most anticipated chips which people have been waiting for as already the A14 Bionic has been announced.

The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 will be using Samsung’s 5nm node and both the new SoCs from Qualcomm or Apple will use ARM Cortex-X1 Super Core that should give a 30% increase in performance as well.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 will come with a “1+3+4” triple cluster architecture which suggests that there will be one super core + three large cores + four energy-efficient cores. Probably, the configuration will consist 1 x high performance Cortex-X1 core + 3 x Cortex-A78 cores + 4 x energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores.

The leaks from prominent leakers Roland Quandt and Ice Universe have suggested that the Snapdragon 875 chip will make its way a bit earlier this year, on December 1st. The Qualcomm’s annual tech summit will be held digitally from December 1st to 2nd this year and we can actually see a lot of announcements from the US chipmaker.

Nvidia Maxine platform uses AI to enhance video conferencing

0

In the current pandemic world, Work From Home (WFH) has become the new norm of society. With people spending most of their time completing projects and collaborating with their team members virtually.

Demand for video conferencing platforms has seen a sudden growth in their market value. With services like Zoom and Google Meet receiving increased popularity, it looks like the video conferencing services are likely to grow even further.

But video conferencing has its fair share of troubles.

Yep, we all experienced it. Be it attending online classes, collaborating with your colleagues, or attending an important interview. It is tough to expect high-quality video output from so many platforms out there.

But the problem is not just related to software. For software to work efficiently, it requires the support of equal quality hardware. This is something most of us don’t have. Thus we end compromising in our day to day video meetings.

But things are on the verge of change.

Nvidia announced its new videoconferencing platform for the developers. Namely, the ‘Nvidia Maxine’, the platform is claimed to be able to fix the most common problems in video calls, while improving the overall quality of the videos.

How does the new tech work?

The platform will process call in the cloud which using the company’s own GPU’s and boosts call in numerous ways using the support of Artificial Intelligence. The role of AI in Maxine will be to realign caller’s faces and gazes so that they’re always looking directly at their camera.

Maxine can also reduce bandwidth requirement for the videos “down to one-tenth of the requirements of the H.264 streaming video compression standard”. It does this by only transmitting “key facial points”. It also offers features like face re-lighting, real-time translation, and also transcription and animated avatars.

Nvidia’s general manager for media and entertainment Richard Kerris stated, “We’ve all experienced times where bandwidth has been a limitation in our conferencing we’re doing daily these days, if we apply AI to this problem we can reconstruct the difference scenes on both ends and only transmit what needs to transmit, and thereby reducing that bandwidth significantly.”

Nvidia compression feature uses an Artificial Intelligence method known as ‘generative adversarial networks’ or GANs that partially reconstruct callers’ faces in the cloud.

Nvidia in its blog posted, “Instead of streaming the entire screen of pixels, the AI software analyzes the key facial points of each person on a call and then intelligently re-animates the face in the video on the other side. this makes it possible to stream video with far less data flowing back and forth across the internet.” This technique is the same one used in many deepfakes.

The company is no doubt hoping its cloud computing and impressive AI R&D work will help it rise above its competitors in the market. The real test, however, lies in the company convincing the established video conferencing companies to adopt Nvidia’s technology.

Nvidia’s Maxine is a toolkit for third-party firms to improve their software. So far, the company has only announced its partnership with the communications firm Avaya, which will be using select features of Maxine.

Nvidia’s latest announcement shows us that the future of videoconferencing will be more Artificial Intelligence Oriented.

Fossil’s new Gen 5E smartwatch series affordable and functional at best

0

Smartwatches are worn and adored by all. From sporting beautiful looks to offering smart functionality, smartwatches are our fashion statement.

But what makes a useful smartwatch. Is it the number of features that it offers, the OS that it comes with, or is the something else. The most crucial thing which makes a useful smartwatch is that it doesn’t break my wallet and offers excellent functionality without compromising on features.

So let’s talk about Fossil’s new Gen 5E smartwatch which comes at a more affordable price compared to its predecessor.

The new Gen 5E not only comes in variant sizes but also has 3 new 44mm styles and a new 42mm size. Maintaining the same 1.19-inch OLED the watch features a smaller bezel display.

The retail price of the watch has been toned down to $249 as compared to $259 of Gen 5 watches.

Wondering whether the company has also cut features along with the price?

Well, you guessed it right. Unfortunately, the new smartwatch offers most of the features of the existing Gen 5 but it also tones down some of the latest features in the smartwatch market.

Let’s talk about what it has.

  • Sleep tracking
  • Battery saver
  • Fitness tracker
  • Speaker
  • Microphone
  • Android and iOS tethering
  • Google assistant
  • Heart rate tracking
  • Activity tracker

What doesn’t include you ask?

The smartwatch is still relying on Qualcomm snapdragon Wear 3100 processor. The world has already reached to Qualcomm wear 4100 chipsets with most of the smartwatches in the market sporting the new chipset. Fossil, we are disappointed.

On another note, the smartwatch only has 1GB of RAM and an average 300maH battery. Water-resistance is provided but is only rated as 3ATM. Meaning uses the smartwatch while doing dishes but don’t even think about wearing it while swimming. It can also handle mobile payments via NFC, which is good, I guess.

The new Fossil Gen 5E series is certainly more affordable, and it’s great that it has more size options. But It’s miserable to see the smartwatch running on a previous-generation chipset.

The new Gen 5E series will ship “close to” November 3rd, according to Fossil’s website.

Barcelona incur a loss of €97m in 2019-20 financial year due to COVID-19

0

The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc in all sectors of the world. Sports industry have also taken a major hit. All the sporting activities were suspended in March. Although they slowly resumed in the June-July period, still now the maximum number of the events are taking place behind closed doors.

LaLiga side Barcelona has also incurred losses in the 2019-20 financial year due to COVID-19. Fans were banned from attending matches inside the stadium which meant Barca lost on matchday revenues.

The official statement read: “Barça closed the year with revenue of 855 million euros, below the 1.047 billion set in the budget, which had forecast a profit of 11 million euros. The final result was after-tax losses of 97 million euros, largely as a result of lost revenue due to the effects of the pandemic.”

“ECA has estimated the overall loss at around 4 billion euros and Barça, as one of the largest clubs in Europe and with such extensive diversification of its income, is one of the most affected.”

Barcelona also explained the reasons behind their losses. They claimed: “The Club suffered financially from the consequences of games being played behind closed doors, as well as the total cancellation of the basketball Euroleague, and hence there was a considerable loss of income. The lack of tourists and visitors to the city of Barcelona due to the reductions and limitations applied to international tourism also meant far fewer visitors to Barça’s premises, meaning major losses in terms of such areas as visitors to the Camp Nou Experience and the sale of products in official stores.”

The Catalan giants further added: “It is estimated that without Covid-19, revenue of 1.059 billion could have been achieved, which would have set a new record for a football club, breaking the 1 billion barrier as forecast by the 2015-2021 Strategic Plan.”

The 2019-20 financial year has been a tough period for all the football clubs. With no matchday revenues among other things, all clubs have faced losses this year.

Everybody is hoping that the situation becomes better so that things can go back to their normal way.

OnePlus 8T to sport a 12GB RAM option

OnePlus has already confirmed that the OnePlus 8T is on its way and will be launched very soon. As per the reports, this model of OnePlus will feature a flat display, rather than one with a profound curve to each long edge as in the 8 flagship series.

In the latest teaser video, we’ve seen a momentary glimpse of this OnePlus 8T itself. A new color variant might be added to this phone: a shade of green. The working is in the process.

According to a recent leak, we’ve come to know that the SoC of the upcoming OnePlus 8T may be paired with up to 12GB of RAM. In a recent Geekbench 5 listing, it appeared in the form of OnePlus KB2000, which, like the KB2001 before it, is now thought to be a model number for an 8T variant.

o1 OnePlus 8T to sport a 12GB RAM option

Form the Geekbench 5 listing, we’ve also come to know that the OnePlus 8T will run on the latest Android 11 OS. If we check the other specifications of this upcoming phone, the OnePlus 8T will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm snapdragon 865 SoC chipset. According to some of the other renders, this phone will be fueled by a decent 4,500mAH battery with the support of fast charging.

One of the tipsters asserted that this phone from OnePlus would have a 48MP primary sensor in place of 64MP. Other than this, there will be a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. If we check the size of this phone, it is expected that the OnePlus 8T will have the dimension 162.8 millimeters (mm) high, 75.5mm wide x 8.4mm in-depth (or 9.3mm if taking its rear camera module into account). So we can assume that the OnePlus 8T will be a little bit shorter than its immediate predecessor the OnePlus 8 Pro.

After the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, the South-Korean tech giant is already working on its next flagship series, which will be the Samsung Galaxy S21 (possibly named Galaxy S30). Now according to some reports by the Korean outlet TheElec, this upcoming flagship from Samsung will not sport an under-display camera, due to the low production yield of the technology. ZTE Axon was the first smartphone to feature this camera technology. Now, Realme is also working n this under-display camera technology (as per the reports).

Samsung was already aiming to sport this technology on the Galaxy Z Fold2. But the company has ultimately missed the deployment of the tech on the 2021 Galaxy S series. Some reports are also saying that Samsung does not want to launch a technology that will be compromised by its users later. The company wants to hold its reputation and reportedly working on a better solution for the under-display camera that won’t compromise as much on image quality as current technology.

As per the reports, Samsung will be ready with this under-display camera technology for the second half of 2021. Another highlight is Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Fold3 will hold this under-display selfie camera. Apart from Samsung, as we’ve said earlier that Xiaomi and Oppo are also working on this technology and have vowed to mass-produce phones with under-display cameras in the next year. That’s all we’ve yet and we have to wait some more time to get clearer information about the Galaxy S21.

IPL 2020 – MI vs RR: Match preview, Fantasy XI team and Prediction

Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will feature a classic rivalry as Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals.

Mumbai Indians have looked phenomenal in this season and are coming off two consecutive wins over KXIP and SRH.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, started pretty strong but deviated along the way and are coming off two consecutive losses against KKR and RCB.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have been looking flawless in every department. They are coming off an impressive win over SRH at Sharjah. Even though the match was at Sharjah, the pitch was a bit slow due to it being an afternoon match. Despite Rohit Sharma getting out, Quinton de Kock took the initiative to lead the innings. He regained his form to score an impressive 67 off just 39 balls. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan scored useful 27 and 31 runs respectively. However, the highlight was the in-form pair of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard who scored 28 and 25 runs respectively.

MI’s bowling looked great as well. Despite the match being in Sharjah and SRH having a stacked top-order, MI was successful in restricting them to 174. All pace-bowlers Trent Boult, James Pattinson, and Jasprit Bumrah bowled well to take 2 wickets each. Krunal Pandya has been bowling beautifully as well.

(Times Now)

Rajasthan Royals

Royals started off pretty briskly, however, seem to be struggling after winning their first two matches. They are primarily a top-order dominant side, however, Jos Buttler hasn’t been showcasing the firepower for which he’s known for. Skipper Steve Smith and Sanju Samson have to bear the added pressure and if they get out cheaply, the middle-order seems weak. Even though in their last match, young Mahipal Lomror scored an impressive fifty but went in vain.

As per bowling is concerned, spearhead  Jaydev Unadkat has been struggling. Mostly the batsmen will have to put up a score that will allow the bowlers to defend.

(PC- Cricket Yahoo)

Fantasy XI team

ROHIT SHARMA (10.5) (C) – Rohit Sharma again played a captain’s knock by scoring a match-winning 70 runs off just 45 balls. He’ll be my captain.

STEVE SMITH (10) (VC) – The RR skipper has been in phenomenal form. He’ll be our vice-captain.

ISHAN KISHAN (8.5) – After what he did in his first match against RCB, it’s pretty self-explanatory why he makes the place.

KIERON POLLARD (9) – Pollard has looked in great form. Especially against spin in Sharjah, he can change the course of the game.

HARDIK PANDYA (9.5) – Hardik Pandya has looked in great form. He does not take time to settle and can explode at any moment.

SANJU SAMSON (9.5) – Samson has been in unreal form.

SURYAKUMAR YADAV (9) – Yadav has been getting good starts, however, is losing his wicket due to soft dismissals. He’s at a cusp of a big inning.

MAHIPAL LOMROR (8) – Lomror impressed everyone when he carried the innings forward after the wickets of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, and Robin Uthappa. He can bowl a bit as well.

JOFRA ARCHER (9) –  Archer bowled great as well and not to forget his innings where he hit Ngidi for four consecutive sixes!

JAMES PATTINSON (8) – Pattinson has been bowling tight and picking wickets at regular intervals as well.

TRENT BOULT (8.5) – Boult has been doing a good job by keeping things tight and picking wickets as well.

PREDICTION

MI is clearly one of the strongest sides of the season alongside Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan Royals started well, however, it is pretty evident that their middle-order isn’t reliable. Also, bowling except for Archer has been struggling. Mumbai Indians will therefore defeat Rajasthan Royals.
