After becoming an independent brand last year, Poco has launched a wide range of smartphones throughout 2020, and now, it’s time for another mid-range Poco smartphone, named Poco F2. As of now, the company has not revealed the launch date of the Poco F2.

The only thing Poco India has teased through a short teaser video on their Twitter handle is the upcoming Poco F2 may get launched early in 2021. At the end of that video, Poco thanked all its fans and teased about the Poco F2.

It is expected that in 2021, the very-first phone Poco will release is the Poco F2. As of now, we’ve not got any confirmed spec from the company itself. However, from some reliable sources we’ve come to know some of the key specs of the Poco F2. As per the leaked specs, it looks like that the upcoming Poco F2 will be a mid-range one, similar to its predecessor Poco F1.

POCO F2 specifications (Unconfirmed)

Let’s check out the things we’ve come to know from those leaks. As per the leaks, the model number of the Poco F2 is K9A and the codename is “Courbet”. This phone will feature an AMOLED panel supported by a faster refresh rate whereas the display size is still unknown to us. The Poco F2 will be fueled by a 4,250mAH battery and will come with the support of reverse charging. It will support NFC connectivity (only for the global variant).

The upcoming Poco F2 is said to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset, similar to the Poco X3. Coming to the camera section, this phone is likely to feature a quad-rear camera setup that includes the following lenses: wide, ultrawide, macro, and depth.

2020 was an important year for console gamers. Both Microsoft and Sony removed the cover from their next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and PS5 respectively. The PS5 has already released in November 2020 globally, but at that time the console didn’t release for the market of India due to an unexpected trademark reason. Entering 2021, Sony seems to have sorted out the issue in the country and has confirmed the launch date of PS5 in India.

PlayStation 5 Launch Date in India

Sony has confirmed via an official tweet from the PlayStation India account by saying that the sale of PS5 in India is going to start from 2nd February. You can pre-order the console via all major offline and online retailers from the 12th of January at 12 PM.

There are multiple options available, from where you can pre-order the PS5 like Flipkart, Amazon, Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales, Shop at Sony Center, Game The Shop, and other retailers.

Price of PlayStation5 and Accessories in India

Graphcore raises $222 million in bid to compete with Chipmaking Giants

British semiconductor company Graphcore has announced on Tuesday that it had raised investments worth $222 million as it looks to compete with U.S rivals Nvidia and Intel.

The Series E funding round comes less than a year after the UK based chip maker raised a $150 million extension to its last round. Graphcore informed that it would use the funding to work towards global expansion and speed up its Intelligence Processing Units (IPUs). The IPUs are specifically designed to power AI software. The company, which now values at $2.77 billion, up from $1.5 billion in 2018, has already shipped tens of thousands of its chips to customers including Microsoft and Dell.

Graphcore CEO and co-founder Nigel Toon told CNBC in July: “We’re now at the point where we’re not really looking for venture investors in the business. We’re more interested in companies that would be long term investors and holders of the stock, perhaps, in the public markets, if we ever reach that point.”

Total investment now stands at $710 million in Graphcore and the company has $440 million of cash on hand.

According to CNBC, the latest funding round was led by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, and other new investors reportedly included venture capital investor Draper Esprit, private equity investor Baillie Gifford, and funds managed by Fidelity International and Schroders.

Toon said in a statement on Tuesday: “Having the backing of such respected institutional investors says something compelling about how the markets now view Graphcore. The confidence they have in us comes from the competence we have demonstrated in building our products and our business.”

He added: “We have created a technology that dramatically outperforms legacy processors such as GPUs, a powerful set of software tools that are tailored to the needs of AI developers, and a global sales operation that is bringing our products to market.”

In spite of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Graphcore launched its second-generation IPU earlier this year.

Founded in June 2016 by Toon and Simon Knowles, the idea of Graphcore came to the pair in a small pub in January 2012. Today, the company employs around 450 people in the UK, China, Taiwan, and the US. The number is expected to grow to about 600 by 2021 end.

But the rapid growth hasn’t come cheap; according to an annual report filed on U.K. business registry Companies House, Graphcore made a pre-tax loss of $95.9 million on revenues of $10.1 million in 2019.

US chipmaking giants Intel and Nvidia are two of the obvious front runners in the AI chip market, given their long run and expertise in chip making. In 2019, 15.7% of Intel’s overall chip sales were made, and it had led the market each year since 2008 except for 2017 (when Samsung won the race for the year). 

Some of the big companies working on their own AI chips include Google, Amazon, and Apple.

After the iPhone 12 series launch this year, the whole media has shifted their interest to Apple’s upcoming iPhone lineup, the iPhone 13 series. As of now, we’ve got so many reports regarding the iPhone 13 series. Recently, another report has said that the “Pro” variants of the iPhone 13 series will feature a 120Hz LTPO display. Apple has been improving the iPhones year after year, adding some new features to them. So, in 2021, we can expect some powerful displays in the iPhone 13 lineup (“Pro” variants) with a 120Hz refresh rate.

If we compare the upcoming iPhone 13 series with the recently launched iPhone 12 series, there will be four models in the iPhone 13 lineup: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. So, as per that report, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are about to feature the long-rumored 120Hz ProMotion OLED display. For comparison, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will feature LTPS display, whereas the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will feature an LTPO display. LTPS stands for Low-Temperature Polysilicon, and LTPO stands for Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide. So, as per the reports, we can arrange the iPhone 13 series’s display in the following manner:

  • iPhone 13 mini– 5.4-inch LTPS display, 60Hz refresh rate.
  • iPhone 13– 6.1-inch LTPS display, 60Hz refresh rate.
  • iPhone 13 Pro– 6.1-inch LTPO display, 120Hz refresh rate.
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max– 6.7-inch LTPO display, 120Hz refresh rate.

The HDMI Forum announced another update to the HDMI 2.1 standard last week, this time adding new HDR functionality in time for CES 2022. Regardless of whether it becomes a game-changer, HDMI 2.1a is unlikely to clear up the existing uncertainty surrounding HDMI specs.

At a pre-CES 2022 virtual press briefing on December 21, the HDMI Licensing Administrator (HDMI LA) announced HDMI 2.1a. TFT Central reports that the standard includes a single new feature called Source-Based Tone Mapping (SBTM), which helps enhance HDR signals.

SBTM will outsource some HDR processing that the display previously handled to the device transmitting the data, according to the HDMI LA. It was created with PCs and games in mind, and it should allow devices to blend HDR SDR, and dynamic HDR graphics to generate the image developers need. If a piece of software displays an SDR picture-in-picture image in an HDR signal, or if one window on a person’s computer uses HDR but another does not, it may help. HDR10 will not be replaced by Source-Based Tone Mapping.

To use HDMI 2.1a, users are unlikely to need to purchase new hardware. SBTM will most likely be added through the device and display firmware updates. The feature is compatible with any HDMI cable. According to The Verge, HDMI 2.1a will debut at CES 2022, while the HDMI LA will not be there. Unlike CES 2021, organizers intend to hold the event in person rather than digitally. Many corporations, however, have pulled out because of concerns over the Omicron variant. Microsoft, Intel, GM, AMD, and MSI are among the companies that have canceled their plans to participate so far.

SBTM, like all of the other HDMI 2.1 features, will not be required for a device to carry the HDMI 2.1a designation. It was disclosed earlier this month that any device that meets the HDMI 2.0 standard can also be designated as HDMI 2.1, and now HDMI 2.1a.

Intel is all set to announce its upcoming 11th Gen Rocket Lake CPUs this year and the multiple leaks of these processors have confirmed as well. The performance improvement seems fair enough but this time Intel is limiting to 8 core, 16 threads only but bringing some key changes like Xe graphics, PCIe Gen 4 and others.

It’s only been a month or so, AMD had been crowned the single-core champion and in a few days, Intel is ready to snatch it back from AMD. In the recent CPU-Z benchmark, we see the upcoming 8-core flagship CPU scoring 695.4 points in the single-core tests and 6522.1 points in multi-threaded tests.

This kind of single-core score is the highest recorded to date and if that’s compared with the AMD flagship – the Ryzen 9 5950X, it is said to have recorded 658 points and another showing 677 points as pointed by Notebookcheck which makes the Intel counterpart 5.68% and 2.72% faster.

It won’t be a fair deal comparing the Ryzen 9 5950X’s multi-core performance with this as it’s evident from the scores that even the Core i9-11900K’s closest competitor in pricing, Ryzen 9 5900X has the better multi-core performance. So, it’s safe to say, Intel will snatch back its gaming crown again but AMD will be a choice to many with its wide range of options and pricing.

The Taiwanese OEM has recently launched a laptop in China with the latest Intel 11th-Gen Tiger Lake processors and a modern look. It has slim bezels on three sides of the laptop and comes with an HD webcam located at the top.

The laptop comes in a single configuration and color variant along with an anti-glare matte finish. It features a 13.3-inch full-HD IPS anti-glare, matte display with 1,920×1,080 pixels resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, the display is very color accurate as it covers 100% sRGB color gamut.

For connectivity, you have Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.1, whereas, for ports, you get an HDMI port, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port (Thunderbolt 4), a USB 2.0 port, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. For audio, you have Harman Kardon stereo speakers along with an inbuilt microphone.
