Top 5 most disappointing transfers of 2020

0

While transfers in football can hold the promise of being a change of scenery for the better, not all changes go to plan. With the year coming to an end, here are the 5 most disappointing transfers that took place in 2020.

5. Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich

This was, in all honesty, a difficult choice, but when you see the standards that Bayern Munich players have been subjected to, Sane’s performance leaves a lot to be desired as of now. This can be attributed to his ACL injury last season, and while he certainly has the talent to turn things around, things just haven’t gone to plan for the winger in the beginning.

4. Arturo Vidal to Inter

With only two assists, and no goals in 18 appearances and 990 minutes on the pitch for the Chilean, things really haven’t gone according to plan for Arturo Vidal since his free transfer to Serie A from Barcelona.

3. Gareth Bale to Spurs

Football fans were really excited to see how things turn out for Gareth Bale when his move back to Spurs was finally announced. However, the Welshman finds himself either injured or on the bench once again. The return has been way below expectations considering his experience.

2. Christian Eriksen to Inter

With only two each of goals and assists for Inter, Christian Eriksen’s escape from Spurs has only made matters worse for the Dane. He is currently on his way out of the San Siro for good measure and has been far below expectations since making the move to Italy.

1. Willian to Arsenal

via Arsenal twitter

With no goals, but 3 assists in 16 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal, Willian’s move to the other side of London has been disastrous to say the least. In 1028 minutes on the pitch wearing an Arsenal shirt, the Brazilian is still waiting to find the back of the net for the first time.

Heartwarming Christmas story sums up the relation between Sergio Reguilon and Jose Mourinho

0

Sergio Reguilon moved to Tottenham Hotspur this summer for a fee worth €30 million and a clause that included a buy-back clause in the left-back’s contract. So far, the Spaniard’s tenure at London has been very impressive, especially considering that Spurs have been one of the best defensive teams in the League.

The player is very happy in London, and is really fond of the city, as well as his new club. His relationship with Jose Mourinho is also a very good one, and a Christmas story narrated by Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on their “Here We Go” podcast shows how good it really is between the player and his manager.

Having moved to a new country only a few months ago, Reguilon was alone on Christmas. So, he went to training and there he saw a box. In it was dinner from Jose Mourinho saying, “I know you are alone, so you don’t have to cook dinner today.”

This sums up the great relationship between Reguilon and Mourinho and how the Portuguese has managed to get the players on his good side. Spurs currently find themselves in 7th and have the chance to go 3rd if they manage to win their game in hand against Fulham, that has been postponed.

Mauricio Pochettino prefered over Max Allegri and Thiago Motta for PSG job

0

Thomas Tuchel has been officially dismissed as the manager of Paris Saint-Germain. The likes of Thiago Motta and Max Allegri have been linked with the job, but none as much as Mauricio Pochettino, who has reportedly signed on the dotted line as the manager of Paris Saint-Germain.

Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio addressed the situation on their “Here We Go” podcast on Patreon, saying that Max Allegri, although favoured by PSG Sporting Director Leonardo, did not apply for the job.

Thiago Motta, on the other hand, was very close to replacing Thomas Tuchel. The match against Manchester United at the Old Trafford was an important one in deciding the future of the now-former coach, who only bought a little more time for himself before his eventual dismissal.

PSG’s Sporting Director Leonardo and Thomas Tuchel reportedly had many differences between them, particularly related to the direction that the club was taking. The pair did not see eye to eye on many transfers, as well as the playing style that the team should take.

As confirmed by Christian Falk of BILD, Thomas Tuchel dreams of managing a team in the Premier League next. The pair of journalists mentioned that football fans should be keeping an eye on Tuchel as to which club he will end up managing next.

While a return to Bundesliga could possibly be on the cards as well, a move to England would be prefered by the German coach.

Barcelona have their lowest point tally in La Liga in 17 years

0

Barcelona dropped down to one more point as the match against Eibar was held to a draw at Camp Nou and slipped to 6th position. They currently have 25 points which is their lowest points tally in 17 years.

Barca’s lowest points tally before this season was under Frank Rijkaard during the 2003-2004 campaign when they managed to collect only 20 points at the early stage. That season, the club’s recovery was seen in the second half of the campaign to finally finish in the second position with 72 points from 38 matches.

Fati, Coutinho and Messi impress as Barca break the curse of Balaidos

This season has been a total disappointment for curlers, as in 17 years this has been the lowest points tally with just 25 points, from their opening 15 rounds of league matches. Meanwhile, Eibar had only earned one point against Barca in 12 previous fixtures, and the first point at Camp Nou yesterday.

After their rock-solid first half, Barça continued to put the pressure on but as time went on, the creativity became desperation and it was hard to find clear-cut chances against a well-organized Eibar defense during the second half in the match against Eibar.

Seems like Koeman’s system is not working out, Koeman is failing to properly strategize things up, and also the player position seems to be not working and the team lineup is also not up to the scratch.

The only thing is that the more pressure is on Koeman, whose job must be hanging by a thread now. The presidential elections are also coming up on 24th January and many candidates have clearly voiced their dislike against Koeman and want to bring in a new manager in order to bring the glory days back at Camp Nou.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

0

Monitors are quite costly in India because of the import charges and taxes, so affording a great monitor is a matter of having some deep pockets. So, although I can recommend a lot of people the new LG Ultragear 27-inch 4K UHD gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-SYNC the price is indeed very high.

So, if you are looking for a budget 4K monitor with an IPS panel and is also colour accurate, you can get one from LG for half the pricing. Well, the ₹ 30,000 price is still affordable for a 4K IPS monitor, so if you are looking for one then you should definitely read this review of the LG 27UL500 4K-UHD Monitor:

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

Specifications

  • 27″ 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) Resoltion with HDR 10
  • IPS Screen with 178/178 deg viewing angle with 300 nits brightness
  • Color Calibrated Display with sRGB 99% and 1.07 Billion Color
  • Radeon Freesync – Gaming Features – DAS Mode and Black Stabilizer
  • Connectivity: HDMI x 2, Display Port & Headphone out
  • VESA Wall Mount 100 x 100
  • HDCP 2.2 for Displaying 4K Content from Streaming Service & Game Console

Design & Build

The first look of this monitor caught my attention as it has very sleek bezels at the sides and the design of it also looks modern. The silver stand with a white body makes it look even better and you can place it with or without the cabinet as the monitor itself has a separate charm.

Also, LG isn’t known to make good stands, so this one too is a fixed stand with no movements at all. The ports used include 2 x HDMI, one Display Port & Headphone jack, it would be great if there would be USB, but as a budget 4K monitor, I cannot complain.

Display Quality

I have been a fan of LG Monitors for quite some time now, so I had high expectations that even though this is a 2019 model, the display quality will be good. So, it is, in fact, at this budget, it is only among few other 4K monitors that give you 98% sRGB color accuracy.

The monitor has 178-degree viewing angles both vertically and horizontally, so no issues watching from any angle. The 300 nits brightness of the IPS display is quite adequate for indoor usage and work, however, the only negative about the display might be the low contrast ratio as it’s an IPS panel.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

I like the fact that this is a matte display, so you have no unnecessary reflections and there are no backlight bleeding or flicker issues. However, your GPU should be strong enough to support 4K resolution, I wouldn’t recommend to run using integrated graphics to get the best experience out of it.

The inclusion of the HDR 10 feature is a good one although it works great only for normal usage and entertainment, not for gaming. Also, the monitor comes with a lot of modes, and among them Cinema, FPS and Reader mode are the best, also the blue light emission seems to be lower than other monitors if HDR is turned on.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

Productivity

As this is LG UltraFine series monitor, the 27UL500 with 27 inch 4K-UHD display makes sense for lot of people who want a good 4K monitor at budget. A lot of people seek for a high resolution, color accurate monitor for their professional stuff like video editing, Photoshop and other stuff.

I feel the color calibration on this laptop has been done pretty well and while doing professional stuff everything looks sharp. Overall, this is a great productivity-centric 4K monitor available at ₹ 30,000.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

Entertainment

This is absolutely great 4K monitor when it comes to watching movies, YouTube videos and even web series. You will absolutely enjoy watching high quality stuff at highest resolution with HDR turned on, also having such high color accuracy helps to enrich the colors and make things look even better.

Also, with HDR turned on, you watch movies at night without hurting your eyes for long hours. I have been enjoying watching sports, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and even YouTube, the only thing it lacks is an inbuilt speaker.

Gaming

I never really thought the LG 27UL500 to deliver a great gaming experience as it is locked at 60Hz, however, the experience is not horrible though. I have played a lot of games with this 4K monitor at the highest resolution and my experience is kind of mixed.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

However, the first thing you should do is turn on Radeon FreeSync from the monitor settings and if you use AMD GPU then you can then enable it in the software to take the effect while gaming. This in fact does help to reduce tearing and the lag quite effectively and also do turn on Radeon Anti-lag to reduce input delays.

Then you should use the Gaming Features like DAS Mode and Black Stablizer as well as turn on the FPS mode if you are playing a shooter game. This indeed helps a lot but still you won’t get that much fluidity on a high refresh monitor.

Games like FIFA, NFS works very well and the First-person Shooter games do struggle a bit comparatively. However, at ₹ 30,000 you cannot get a 4K IPS 144Hz monitor, so at this price, I won’t be complaining about the decent to the average gaming performance of the LG 27UL500 monitor.

LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

Pros & Cons

Here are things which I like and dislike about the LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor:

Pros:

  • Looks modern & slim bezels
  • IPS display
  • Very color accurate
  • Great for professional work & entertainment
  • Affordable pricing

Cons:

  • Average gaming performance
  • Low contrast ratio
  • The stand could have been better
LG 27UL500 27 inch 4K-UHD Monitor review: Best you can get under ₹ 30,000

Verdict

Keeping all the advantages and disadvantages in mind, this 27 inch 4K-UHD monitor makes sense to those who need a 4K monitor for work, media consumption and light gaming. The price at which it comes in and the great color accuracy this IPS panel provides makes it a good choice for daily usage.

Even though it’s not made for gaming, you can still enjoy playing games at the highest resolution sacrificing or unable to enjoy those extra frame rates. Overall, the LG 27UL500, although being a year old, is a good choice for those looking for a value-for-money entry-level 4K monitor with HDR 10 support.

Top 5 Sixth-Men in the NBA 2020-21 season

0

A ‘sixth-man’ is the most important player on a team’s bench. He makes sure to bring some energy of the bench and to give the team the extra boost they need.

Here’s our ranking of the top sixth-men from this NBA season, from 5-1.

5. Jordan Clarkson – Utah Jazz

2019-2020 Statistics: 15.6 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 1.6 APG

The shooting guard from Utah Jazz is an electrifying player off the bench who manages to give the team what is required at the moment. He shoots the ball pretty well and can even play the point guard position when required. Last year, he had a vital role in coming off the bench and being an impactful player for the team in the 24.7 minutes he played per game.

4. Davis Bertans – Washington Wizards

2019-2020 Statistics: 15.4 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1.7 APG

Davis Bertans had a great year last season. His game could be better as the Wizards’ newly acquired Westbrook is an exceptionally well ball distributor, no doubt Bertans will get better looks at the rim. In the 29.7 minutes per game he played last year, he definitely made a positive impact on the team. The Wizards were without the likes of their leader, Bradley Beal, because of which the Wizards didn’t make the playoffs.

3. Dennis Schroder – Los Angeles Lakers

2019-2020 Statistics: 18.9 PPG, 4 APG, 3.6 RPG

Schroder had a great year last year coming off the bench for the Thunder. He immediately established his role as a dominant scorer of the bench. Being traded to the Lakers, he will be coming off the bench with the defending Sixth Man of the Year, Montrezl Harrell. Schroder is an extremely talented ball-handler who makes difficult moments easy for the starters when the team has a scoring drought.

2. Lou Williams – Los Angeles Clippers

2019-2020 Statistics: 18.2 PPG, 5.6 APG, 3.1 RPG

Arguably one of the greatest sixth man of all time, Lou Williams has won the award three times. Over the course of his dominant 15-year career, he has consistently proven to be a lethal threat to the opposition coming off the bench. He ties Jamal Crawford as the only players in NBA history to win the award three times. Despite the Clippers’ struggles last year, Williams sits 2nd on this list because we all know what an impact he can have on any team.

1. Montrezl Harrell – Los Angeles Lakers

2019-2020 Statistics: 18.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 APG

Montrezl Harrell is the reigning Sixth Man of the Year. Montrezl Harrell will be most likely seeing a ton of minutes for the Laker as Marc Gasol’s backup. He will be seeing more of the ball, playing along with ball distributors like LeBron and Schroder. There is no doubt that he makes the Lakers team stronger and even more deadly than they already are. The Lakers are definitely the favourites to win the championship this year too and Harrell will be a big reason why, if they manage to win back-to-back titles.

Other than these players, JJ Reddick, Serge Ibaka and Danilo Gallinari do deserve a mention on this list.

Arsenal looking to sign Isco on a loan deal in January 2021

Arsenal are being linked with Real Madrid outcast Isco ahead of the transfer window, in an attempt to add more creativity to their midfield. Currently, a half-season long loan deal is being proposed, and it could be the most effective solution for both parties involved.

The Spaniard has been on the fringes this season at Real Madrid and has been visibly frustrated with his lack of playing time under Zinedine Zidane. There were reports of Carlo Ancelotti potentially being interested in luring his former player to Everton alongside James Rodriguez, but those seem to have died down now.

Isco is currently 28 years old and is in his peak years as a footballer. While Arsenal must be cautious before investing in him permanently, a loan deal could do them good not only by solving the most pressing problem at hand (creativity) as well as almost completely minimise the damage should the move not prove to be successful.

Isco is naturally accustomed to playing a creative role through the centre, but also has the versatility to operate on the wings, as he has been deployed in wider areas multiple times by Zinedine Zidane.

With Dani Ceballos already on loan from Real Madrid at Arsenal, the relations between the two clubs are considered to be smooth.

The financial situation at Arsenal is preventing the club from investing in a high-output move for someone of the likes of Houssem Aouar or Emi Buendia. The loan move will not only look after the finances but also enable the club to feasibly invest in a much more exciting younger talent to carry the club forward in the upcoming years when the season ends and the summer transfer window is open for business.

Top 5 players who revived their career in 2020

0

Football is one of the most dynamic sports on the planet, which acts as a double-edged sword. One day you can be the messiah of the team, and the very next you can be discarded by the fans. While players often experience low spells in form, it is never too late to make a turnaround.

Hence, owing to that very attitude, here are the top 5 players who managed to revive their careers for good measure in 2020.

5. Danny Ings

His days as a Liverpool flop are long gone, and Danny Ings currently finds himself as the best player in the Southampton squad. The Englishman almost won the Golden Boot in the 19/20 season and has managed to bring his goalscoring form to the 20/21 season as well.

4. Jerome Boateng

The German was written off on the back of a difficult last few seasons with Bayern Munich. However, 2020 saw the centre-back being almost reborn and he was essential in the 19/20 season that saw the Bavarians win every trophy available to them.

3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Most football fans wrote the Swedish striker off when he went to the MLS. However, making a return to AC Milan in January of this year, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continuously managed to prove that age is just a number, leading the Rossoneri into the top spot in the Serie A table at the age of 39.

2. Alvaro Morata

The Spanish international had a difficult tenure at Chelsea which attracted a lot of criticism from football fanatics all across the globe. However, with the start of the new season, Morata has donned a Juventus shirt once more and is a completely transformed player under Andrea Pirlo.

1. Lucas Vasquez

The Real Madrid wide-man was almost written off completely when the previous season came to a conclusion. But with the 20/21 campaign, injuries plagued the Madrid squad which is when Vasquez stepped up and proved his worth not only in a wide attacking role but in the right-back position as well.

OFFICIAL: Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham has been postponed due to numerous positive COVID cases in the Fulham camp

0

The UK has recently seen a new strain of Coronavirus coming to the forefront. The number of COVID positive cases has increased and has taken a toll on the Premier League.

The Manchester City vs Everton was postponed as City recorded numerous positive cases. Now, Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham becomes the latest Premier League match to be postponed.

It has been reported that Fulham has seen a number of COVID positive cases which has forced the Premier League officials to cancel the match for today and postpone it.

The match was scheduled to start from 11:30 pm IST and it was unclear for Jose Mourinho’s team whether they would play even just before 4 hours from kickoff.

Jose Mourinho mocked the Premier League of being the best league in the world by a post on Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CJbK538JMf6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

So, now it has been confirmed that the match has been officially postponed but finding a later date would be a real headache because Tottenham Hotspur are alive in two cup competitions along with the Europa League.

But the major concern is the increased number of COVID positive cases in the Premier League. In the round 17 of the tests held between 21-21 December, a total of 18 people resulted in positive COVID test. This is the highest number since the pandemic broke in March. So this is certainly a big issue.

Many of the people involved in the Premier League has started calling to halt the league for a few weeks to sort the situation.

West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce said after his side’s 5-0 defeat to Leeds United on Wednesday: “Everyone’s safety is more important than anything else.”

“When I listen to the news that the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus, we can only do the right thing, which is have a circuit break. I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do is catch Covid.”

“As much as we’re getting tested – we had one positive this week – it seems to be creeping round. No matter how hard we try, no matter how many times we get tested, how we wear our masks, how we sanitise our hands, we’re still catching a lot infections round the country.”

“If that helps [circuit breaker], let’s do it and let the season run a little longer when we get through it.”

But speaking after his side’s victory over Wolves, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a different view on the matter. Solskjaer ‘can’t see benefit’ of Premier League COVID break.

“I can’t see the benefit in having a circuit break, whatever it’s going to be called,” said Solskjaer.

“When are we going to play the games? We all know this year is so difficult, but I don’t think stopping the games is going to make a big, big change.”

So there are different opinions from different people but the idea of having a circuit breaker has come to the forefront. Now, what does the Premier League decide remains to be seen!
