Andy Jassy to Take Over as CEO of Amazon on July 5: Jeff Bezos

Andy Jassy will take over as new Amazon.com Inc. chief executive officer on July 5, outgoing CEO Jeff Bezos said during the annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday. July 5, 2021, is the 27th anniversary of the company’s incorporation and also the day after Independence Day in the U.S.

Jassy, currently head of the Amazon Web Services cloud computing division, was named the company’s next CEO in February. Bezos will become executive chairman and focus on new projects and initiatives.

According to Variety, about the July 5 date, Bezos said, “We chose that date because it’s sentimental for me: the day Amazon was incorporated in 1994, exactly 27 years ago.” Bezos reiterated his confidence in Jassy, telling shareholders that “He has the highest of high standards and I guarantee that Andy will never let the universe make us typical. He has the energy needed to keep alive in us what has made us special.”

About his new role, Bezos said that he is “very excited to move into the exec chair role where I will focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives.”

Also at the shareholders meeting, Bezos addressed Amazon’s blockbuster deal to buy MGM, saying that the thesis for the $8.45 billion acquisition “is really very simple: MGM has a vast, deep catalog of much-loved intellectual property. With the talented people at MGM and Amazon Studios, we can reimagine and develop that IP for the 21s century.”

Real Madrid eyeing Haaland as plan B if PSG don’t negotiate Mbappe transfer

0

Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since he was 18 years old. The move has not yet materialised, and the player’s four years at PSG have seen him become one of the most talented youngsters in the world. According to the club officials, they are determined to keep him and maintain that the forward is going nowhere.

“I want to feel that the team I’m at can do things,” Mbappe said. “I’m talking to the club, we’ll see what happens.

“In any case, I’m happy about the four exceptional years I’ve had here. They know the relationship I have with the club, the city and the country. Things will be done the way they should be done, one way or another.”

According to Marca, the move to Real Madrid is still on the cards and will materialise sooner or later. There is a good chance it could go through next year as well, but Real would appreciate it going through this very summer. The main reason behind it being that he has one year left on his current deal.

Madrid hope to raise money for the transfer through the sale of Raphael Varane. David Alaba is set to join the club, and with Eder Militao and a bunch of youngsters ready to break through, they have their replacement personnel ready.

However, should PSG be unwilling to negotiate with Real Madrid regarding the sale of their star forward, Madrid have marked Erling Haaland as their plan B and will trigger his €75 million release clause next season.

Zinedine Zidane confirmed to be leaving Real Madrid for the second time

0

Zinedine Zidane has decided to leave Real Madrid for the second time, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano. The club and the manager both will officially announce them parting ways in the next few days at the latest.

There were rumours regarding the Frenchman’s departure since Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla, and their exit from the Champions League against Chelsea, and those rumours have now been confirmed.

The 20/21 season was the first one in six years that Real Madrid have not won a single trophy. And in the aftermath of it, the 48-year-old has made his decision to walk away from the Santiago Bernabeu for the second time.

During his first spell at the club, Zidane led the club to a hat-trick of Champions League trophies from 2016 to 2018. After returning to the club, the Frenchman managed to guide Madrid to their 34th La Liga title last season. However, their fortune was not as good this time around, as they missed out on the league title by a single point to their rivals, Atletico.

As revealed by Romano himself before, Florentino Perez was prepared in case Zidane wanted to leave. And now that he has made his decision, either Massimiliano Allegri, Raul or Antonio Conte will take over the job. Conte has emerged as a surprise candidate for the job following his departure from Inter Milan yesterday.

Real Madrid are a club at the end of their cycle, and need to start trusting younger players and phasing out the more experienced ones. Either one of the three candidates would be perfect for the job, and the new head coach will be announced soon.
