REVEALED: Top 10 best European cities for football fans

0

With the new season well under way and the return of European competitions, many football fans will be thinking about the option of travelling to different places to watch matches in some of the world’s most iconic stadiums. But a lot of factors play a part in this decision – such as how are the city’s hotels or how accessible its stadiums are.

Rotterdam is the best European city for football fans. The Dutch port city is home to 3 teams in the Eredivisie (first division) – Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam, and Excelsior. The stadiums for these clubs boast an average review rating of 4.4 out of 5.

With an average travel time from city centre to stadium of 10 minutes by car, 18 minutes by public transport, and just under an hour on foot, Rotterdam finishes with an average travel time rating of 8.6 out of 10.

This, combined with the city’s above-average hotel value rating of 6.8 out of 10, leaves Rotterdam in first on our table, with a near-perfect overall score of 9.9 out of 10.

Liverpool ranks second on our list, with an overall score of 8.3 out of 10.

The iconic home of the Reds and the Toffees excels particularly in the field of hotel value, with an average rating of 9.5 out of 10

London follows in third, with an overall score of 8.2 out of 10. The English capital is one of football’s most iconic hubs, housing the stadium of a whopping 7 Premier League teams. Many London matchday commuters won’t be surprised, however, to see the English capital finish with a poor average travel time rating of 1.8 out of 10.

Another three UK cities make it onto the top 10: Manchester in fifth, Glasgow in seventh, and Edinburgh in ninth.

Finishing at the bottom of the ranking is Berlin, home to the Bundesliga’s Hertha BSC and Union Berlin. Though its stadium reviews on average are good, the German city is weighed down by a low average travel time rating of 2.5 out of 10, and an abysmal average hotel value rating of 0 out of 10, owed to its pricey accommodation options.

Methodology

  1. To find out which European city is best for football fans, Voetbal Travel first made a seed list of the top 10 European football leagues using transfermarkt, based on total value. From this top 10, it excluded Russia.
  2. We then looked at all the current teams throughout these leagues and where they are based. Cities which are home to 2 or more 1st division teams were noted down. Since the French and Belgian leagues had no city with more than 1 team, they were replaced with the next adequate leagues on the transfermarkt ranking – the Austrian and Scottish leagues.
  3. We then made a note of all the cities in these 10 leagues with 2 or more teams (17 total), as well as what these teams are and their stadiums.
  4. We then searched for hotels in these 17 cities on TripAdvisor, using the search format ‘[city] hotels]’. It made a note of the top 10 hotel results under ‘Best Value’ – noting their name, price per night, review rating, and total number of reviews.
  5. We then calculated the average price per night of hotels in each city by taking each of the 10 hotels’ results and adding them together, before dividing by 10.
  6. We then calculated the (Bayesian) average review rating out of 5 for hotels in each city, taking into account the number of reviews for each.
  7. Using the average price per night and average review rating, Voetbal Travel determined the total value for hotels in each city as a whole.
  8. We then used Google Maps to search the directions from the city centre of these cities (simply by searching ‘[name of city]’) to the stadiums, seeing how long it would take to reach by foot, car, and public transport.
  9. After collecting all these results, Voetbal Travel found the average time taken for walking, driving, and public transport for each city.
  10. We then searched the stadiums of each of these teams on TripAdvisor, making a note of their review rating and number of reviews to find a Bayesian average and determine a ranking.
  11. Tables were created to rank each city (or team) by these categories.
  12. A final ranking of the cities was made with a score out of 10, using a percent rank of the number of first division teams, a hotel value rating, and a travel time rating (using an average of the percent rank of walking, driving, and public transport times). An adjustment factor of x1.25 was utilised to bring the higher rank values closer to 10.
  13. Incomplete data has been noted on the spreadsheet (e.g. some public transport information and stadium reviews).
  14. All data was collected on 06-09-2022 and is accurate as of then.

Premier League records: The only 6 players who have scored more than 100 goals without a penalty

0

The Premier League has seen some top players over the last 30 years, and some of them have scored over 100 goals without a single penalty. In this article, we’ll take a look at the only six players to have 100 Premier League goals without a penalty strike.

The only 6 players with over 100 goals in the Premier League w/o penalties

Les Ferdinand

Ferdinand is the highest scoring player in the division’s history without a single penalty goal – at 149. He featured for Queen’s Park Rangers before forming a partnership with Alan Shearer at Newcastle United, and also played for Tottenham, Leicester, Bolton and West Ham United before retiring.

Andy Cole

Andy Cole burst onto the scene in 93/94, and played for Newcastle before making a then-record fee to Manchester United. He scored 121 goals for the Red Devils and had spells at Blackburn, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Emile Heskey

Heskey was often criticised for his returns in front of goal. But, he scored 111 goals during his career, in over 500 appearances. He started off with Leicester City and helped them reach three League Cup finals in four years, before moving to Liverpool and winning the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup treble.

Ryan Giggs

There are a number of insane Premier League records that Ryan Giggs holds. And this is also one of them. The 13-time Premier League champion scored over 100 goals for Manchester United, without a single coming from penalties.

Peter Crouch

At 36, Peter Crouch was the oldest player to achieve the 100-goal mark. He played for Liverpool, Stoke, Tottenham, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Southampton during his illustrious career in the top flight of English football.

Sadio Mane

Mane is the only active player on the list – albeit not in England anymore. The Senegalese icon played for Liverpool and Southampton in England and is only the third African footballer to have scored 100 goals in the Premier League after Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah.

Neymar dismisses questions about tense relationship with Mbappe

0

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar’s relationship has turned rather sour over the years. The pair were once seemingly tight knit, but that is no longer the case by the looks of things.

The Brazilian was asked about his relationship with Kylian Mbappe following the game against Ghana. He replied in English, saying “I don’t understand”, he then, after the question was cleared up, replied with an “I don’t…”, and proceeded to walk away.

Neymar refuses to comment on relationship with Kylian Mbappe

The winger was rather dismissive of the question, and looked disinterested in replying. This could suggest that there are tensions between the two players, despite the team performing well on the pitch.

Neymar has had a brilliant start to the season, and is currently the top scorer in the French league. His good form is timely, as it would benefit Brazil heading into the 2022 World Cup as well.

In recent years, it has become quite blatantly obvious that PSG value Mbappe much higher than they do Neymar. This was made clear when they offered him a humongous contract to keep him from leaving on a free transfer. Moreover, they also allowed him to have a say in sporting matters which gave him more power than other players in the squad.

All in all, the two players seem to be cooperating for the sake of the team, rather than getting along well.

Flipkart is delivering Made in India iPhone 13 during BBD

0

The e-commerce giant recently gave away the iPhone 13s for an affordable price of Rs.50k, which is Rs.20k less than the original pricing which is why a lot of people actually went for this pretty well-balanced iPhone including me. Previously, I bought the iPhone 12 mini during the last BBD and now trading it at a good price, buying a full-fledged iPhone 13 made more sense to me.

While it was a real struggle to get discounted rates and for just a few minutes I had to pay Rs.2k extra, however, still with bank offers and discounts it was worth the purchase. However, after a few minutes and eventually hours, the prices kept on increasing, making it ridiculous for low-budget people to afford.

Flipkart is delivering Made in India iPhone 13 during BBD

Made in India iPhone 13 – Why Apple is selling them at the right price during BBD and at high prices throughout the year?

For me, it was worth the wait and a lot of people in my friend’s circle went for the iPhone 13 and it was kind of obvious for the price Flipkart was offering. Now, I was surprised to see such rapid delivery by Friday morning itself and the delivery was an Open-Box delivery which means, the delivery guy had to unbox the phone and check it thoroughly before handing it over to me.

Being an Apple phone, the guy was instructed to take a lot of pictures as proof, and with 10 minutes of testing, I got my iPhone 13 (128GB) Starlight edition. I was amazed to see one thing this time: this iPhone was Made in India, yes, assembled in the country itself making it much more affordable.

Sometimes what surprises me is, if iPhones are really being Made in India then why is Apple still charging the same old price scheme ($799 – Rs.79,990) and so on for over a year now? Even the new iPhone 14 is being charged the same while reports say Foxconn has already started making these new iPhones in India.

Flipkart is delivering Made in India iPhone 13 during BBD

Previously, a year ago when we ordered both iPhone 12 Mini and normal iPhone 12 at discounted rates from Flipkart during BBD, they were both Made in China, but still, Apple offered them at cut prices to the masses. So, one conclusion you can draw this time around is that Apple has made a strategy to make larger profits in India until new iPhones get up to a year old.

While a lot of people who have money can go and spend more on new iPhones, ones who have always thought of getting one but at justified pricing need to wait a year or so until these Amazon and Flipkart sales come up. Not reducing the prices upfront when introduced makes you believe that you are getting it for cheap but actually, the rightful pricing of say iPhone 13 here should have been Rs.50k already.

It’s not that Apple is not having any margins by providing Flipkart at that rate because it’s believed that on a regular iPhone Apple spends around Rs.25k-Rs.30k and the rest is its profit and the incentives of partners.

So, it’s interesting to see Apple remains sharp and cunning with its strategies to not only increase iPhone users in the second-largest smartphone market in the world but also keep its profits flowing with eye-catching launches and advertisements to lure customers during launches. Now, which path you will choose is your point of concern but this strategy is quite interesting for Apple.

IPL 2023 Auction: Is the next auction on December 16? The salary purse increases to 95 Cr, and all necessary discussions to take place at AGM

0

IPL 2023 mini-auction is supposed to take place on December 16. The BCCI is thinking of mulling this date, the final decision will be taken in the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The purse also expanded to Rs 95 Crore which the BCCI set last year in IPL 2022. The trade window will be open until one week ago of the auction day.

In IPL 2022 Auction the purse had only Rs 90 Cr value but in 2013, it has increased up to 5 Crore. There are predictions that by 2024, the purse will hit Rs 100 Cr. It absolutely depends on the trade-ins, that’ll decide or shrink the purse for franchises. The BCCI wants mid-December for the auctions.

It will be a short auction as we had the big one last season. The last auction was the major one and the next three will be mini auctions as the teams want to develop the squads,” said a senior BCCI official

IPL 2023 is expected to start on March 22 or 23, though the final decision will be during the AGM.

As stated by Sourav Ganguly earlier, the IPL will be in the home and away format. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said this in his one of these letter to the state associations.

“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” Ganguly said in his letter.

The window will be open till 7 days before the auction. The biggest name on the IPL transfer market is Ravindra Jadeja right now. He has been a part of the franchise since 2012 but had a fallout with CSK after the team failed to perform under him.

He was removed as a captain by the franchise in the midway and MS Dhoni was once again the skipper. CSK finished at 9th position and one of the strongest teams had the worst season ever.

Adani and Ambani account for India’s 59% of billionaires’ Wealth

0

According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022, Gujarat-based billionaire Gautam Adani increased his wealth by 5 lakh crore last year, making him the richest person in the country. The creator of the Adani Group lagged Mukesh Ambani in 2021 by 2 lakh crore. He now has a 3 lakh crore advantage over Ambani. The “5 lakh crore catch up” is what the report refers to.

The announcement stated that Adani’s total wealth is $10.94 lakh crore and that he has been adding $1,612 crore per day for the past year.

“From an Indian wealth creation perspective, 2022 will be remembered for Adani’s meteoric rise. Briskly expanding his commodity trading company into a coal–to–port-to-energy conglomerate, he is the only Indian to have built not one, but seven companies with a market cap of one lakh crore,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and chief researcher, Hurun India.

Adani has surpassed Ambani thanks to the quick increase in the value of his seven publicly traded companies, which are now nine after the addition of ACC and Ambuja Cements.

The Hurun Global Rich List now includes Gautam Adani as number two, according to the report. Adani’s profits also contributed to the Indian billionaires’ overall wealth increase.

“In 2012, Adani’s wealth was hardly one-sixth of Ambani’s wealth and no one could imagine that he would overtake Ambani to become the richest man in India in ten years,” said Junaid.

“The cumulative wealth growth of the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022 excluding Adani is only 2.67%, compared to the overall 9%,” said Junaid.

There are 1,103 people on the IIFL Hurun India Rich List, including as many as 149 people, all of whom have a net worth of at least $1 billion. They are collectively worth 100 lakh crore.

Nvidia cuts India prices for its GeForce RTX 40 GPUs after Internet Outcry

0

As its most recent annual GPU release, Nvidia had just unveiled the GeForce RTX 4000 series of graphics cards. These cards were eagerly anticipated all throughout the world and offer a lot of upgrades over the previous generation. However, due to significant internet outcry, the price of these new GPUs in India has now been lowered.

Team Green revealed the prices for its two top-tier GPUs, the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, shortly after making the RTX 4000 series official. The most expensive RTX 4090 retailed for a staggering 177,000 INR (about 2,190 USD), while the RTX 4080 is priced at 133,000 INR for the 16GB VRAM model and 99,500 INR (about 1,230 USD) for the 12GB VRAM variation. However, this price disclosure put the corporation in India’s crosshairs.

The Nvidia received criticism on several social media sites as a result of the astronomical price tag.

The price differential between the new graphics card in India and the US market was much bigger, which was the main cause of the backlash. When the different taxes and import duties were taken into consideration, this was even more unexpected. For instance, the RTX 4080 sells for 1,199 US Dollars and the RTX 4090 for merely 1,599 US Dollars, respectively.

Nvidia

This essentially meant that there was a price increase of about 600 US Dollars between the two locations, which is equivalent to a brand-new graphics card on its own. Nvidia has officially lowered the pricing for the RTX 40 series down to 155,000 INR (approximately 1,915 US Dollars) for the RTX 4090, while the 16GB RTX 4080 costs 116,000 INR (about 1,433 US Dollars) and the 12GB variant is now priced at 87,000 INR. It appears that the reaction actually had an impact (roughly 1,075 US Dollars).

Intel Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake CPU appears in leaked packaging

0

The packaging for Intel’s Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake CPU has been revealed, and it is significantly thinner than the outgoing one. The Raptor Lake CPUs from Intel will be formally presented the following week. The most recent disclosure came from Twitter leaker HXL, who discovered the image in a closed WeChat group. The plastic wafer on the new Intel Raptor Lake Core i9-13900K CPU box has a new silver colour scheme and a slimmer design.

Intel has been using premium-style designs for its K-series processor boxes in recent years. The prior approach, which was last used in August, has been abandoned in favour of the most recent box design. The final box contained the third iteration of the K-series processors produced by the business.
