Toni Kroos announces shocking return to Germany national team ahead of Euro 2024

0

Toni Kroos has shockingly revealed that he will be playing for the German national team at Euro-2024. The midfielder called time on his national career after crashing out of the 2021 Euros against England, and has now decided to return. He will be playing the fixtures in March ahead of the tournament in the summer.

The German maintained character as part of his announcement, keeping it short and sweet. The national team will be playing the Euros at home, and perhaps the opportunity has just proven to be too good to resist for the iconic midfielder.

Toni Kroos announces return to Germany national team

“People, short and painless: I will play for Germany again in March. Why? Because I was asked by the federal coach, I’m in the mood and I’m sure that with the team at the European Championship, much more is possible than most believe right now!,” Kroos wrote on his Instagram to announce the decision.

In spite of being 34 years of age, Toni Kroos has remained at the peak of his abilities, regularly dictating play for Real Madrid. Julien Nagelsmann reportedly had a personal conversation with the player to convince him to return, and he succeeded in the role.

Kroos made his debut for the German national team in 2010, and was a part of the squad that lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2014. He has earned 106 caps for the national team, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists over the years.

Toni Kroos

The team hasn’t quite been performing up to expectations, with standards falling in spite of having a promising squad. Perhaps the presence of a leader like Kroos in the centre of the park will bring in more mental fortitude and direction in tense moments.

Real Madrid could potentially use this opportunity to extend the icon’s contract for one more season, as has been their approach for all players over 30 years of age.

Indian Women’s Football Team With a Hard-fought 4-3 Win in the Turkish Women’s Cup

In doing so the Indian tigresses coached by Chaoba Devi also created a piece of history. The Indian Senior Women’s team had never won against a team from the UEFA confederation in an official outing. Before this, India played Ukraine, Belarus and Romania, only to end up on the losing side.

Thrilling Action at Gold City Sports Complex: India vs. Estonia Football Match Recap

The match was played at the beautiful Gold City Sports Complex in Alanya, Turkey and the Blue Tigresses couldn’t have asked for a better start as they took the lead in the 17th minute with the help of a Manisha Kalyan goal. Estonia draw level in the 32nd minute off a goal by Lisette Tammik, following which a raging India shot thrice in the form of Indumathi Kathiresan in the 62th minute, Pyari Xaxa in the 79th minute, and Manisha in the 81th minute again to take an assertive 4-1 lead.

Just when it seemed to appear that the Indian girls were on their to a resounding victory, Estonia scored a quick brace through Vlada Kubassova in the 88th minute and Mari Liis Lillemae in the 90th minute for a last-ditch effort. The Indian defense also did a very good work to see out rest of the regulation time and make it a remarkable win.

At the early stages of the match, India intended to hit Estonia on the counter attack with the help of their speedy wingers while letting Estonia drive deeper into the box and have possession. And this proved to be a very smart move as this played into the hands of the Blue Tigresses. In the start Karthika intercept the ball on the right that allowed Pyari to attack the space left behind by the Estonian defenders and take a shot past Estonia keeper Karina Kork but unfortunately for India it struck the crossbar and was eventually cleared by the Estonian defence.

For India Pyari often acted as the focal point of the counterattacks as she kept creating great opportunities. In the eighth minute she made a swift turn to get away from her marker at the halfway line and played a through ball to Manisha on the left with acres of space in front of her. However, Manisha scuffed her shot, which went wide.

However Manisha made amends for the chance she missed earlier, when she began a quick Indian move with a clever back-heel to Pyari, who put a through behind the Estonian defence again, but this time for Anju Tamang. Chaos erupted inside the penalty box of Estonia, as Anuj’s shot was blocked but Manisha calmly collected the ball and drove the ball in from the near post from a narrow angle.

India gave up the ball easily to Estonia after having taken the lead and had to pay the price a little after the 30th minute mark as an accurate cross sent in from the left by Vlada Kubassova was nodded in by Tammik.

India Secures Victory in Opening Turkish Cup Match Against Estonia

Chaoba Devi’s side applied pressure in the second half as they came out, imposing a mid-block, which meant that Estonia no more had control over the proceedings in the middle of the park.

And their pressure paid off as India took a lead a little after the 60th minute through Indumathi. The attack was initiated on the right by Soumya Guguloth, passed it to Anju, who squared it off to Pyari, who, in turn, teed it off for Indumathi at the edge of the penalty box.

The Indian girls started pressing harder as Soumya snatched the ball in the middle of the park and played it through to Anju on the right. However, Anju was in an off-side position so she kept herself as far away as possible from the ball. On the other hand, Pyari made an extended dash to the right-wing and got there before any of the opposition defenders. She carved into the box from the right, cut inside, and slotted her left-footed effort into the bottom corner to double India’s lead.

Manisha added her second goal of the day and the fourth for the team just a couple of minutes later when she controlled a cross Sandhiya Ranganathan, to score at the near post again.

Estonia raised a late charge to the Indian box and pulled back two goals via Vlada Kubassova and Mari Liis Lillemmae as India held on to their lead eventually, to start off their Turkish Cup with three points.

India are scheduled to play their next match against Hong Kong on Saturday, February 24. In the four-team round robin tournament Kosovo are the other team.

What Next for PSG as Kylian Mbappe is Leaving Paris Saint-Germain?

0

Paris Saint-Germain took on Nantes on 21st February without Kylian Mbappe in their starting XI and maybe this was a glimpse of the future.

Soccer Football – Ligue 1 – Paris St Germain v Nantes – Parc des Princes, Paris, France – March 4, 2023 Paris St Germain’s Kylian Mbappe celebrates scoring their fourth goal and becomes Paris St Germain’s all time top goalscorer REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier

Mbappe was dropped by coach Luis Enrique on Sunday night after having played 90 minutes against visitors Real Sociedad in the Champions League in midweek and then revealing privately his intention to leave PSG in summer at the end of the season.

Mbappe was also rested before the Sociedad match as a precaution due to an ankle knock against Lille on 12th February. Other than that the number of times Mbappe has been left out of the starting XI has been few and far between over since he was signed by PSG in 2017.

Facing the Reality: PSG’s Transition Beyond Mbappe

In reference to what has happened this past week, it felt like a shift in powers.

Has Mbappe’s revelation over his impending exit made rotation easier and end his untouchable status? Luis Enrique though didn’t have such thoughts as he said after his side’s 2-0 away win. “There was a Champions League match during the week and we needed energy to be competitive, we had to give playing time to those who didn’t have it in Europe. Our goal is ambitious and I need all players involved to achieve it.”

But a PSG side without Mbappe will be the norm soon enough. The defending Ligue 1 champions and current leaders will have chance to shrug off the spotlight and the baggage that comes with having a storied indvidual like Kylian Mbappe.

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football – Ligue 1 – RC Strasbourg v Paris St Germain – Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg, France – May 27, 2023 Paris St Germain’s Kylian Mbappe during the warm up before the match REUTERS/Pascal Rossignol

The loss of Kylian Mbappe also means the loss of a game changer as he justifiably showed a glimpse for the umpteenth time. He came on after the 60th minute of the game on Saturday against Nantes. Won a penalty on his own, thanks to his immensely individual prowess and scored the penalty, won the match for PSG. Job done.

PSG have been spoilt with these moments of brilliance from the soon to be Madrid bound player. But, now change is coming and the impact will be huge both on and off the field.

PSG have always been expecting for life after Mbappe owing to the speculations about his future have rumbled on through almost every transfer window over the past two years.

However, this time it’s real and the conclusion feels more concrete. Even though it may not have been publicly announced, nor has his new club (read Real Madrid) formally agreed.

But it’s not going to be easy. Mbappe is not just any player approaching his mid-thirties at the twilight of his career and not just because of his talent as well. It’s because he is THE MOST influential French player ever to have ever worn PSG’s shirt.

Mbappe is arguably one of the best players in the world today and has already established himself as PSG’s record goal-scorer by the age of 25. He’s broken multiple records since he signed from Monaco at 18 years old, initially on loan that later turned into a permanent contract worth €180million a year later.

Soccer Football – Champions League – Group H – Paris St Germain v Juventus – Parc des Princes, Paris, France – September 6, 2022 Paris St Germain’s Kylian Mbappe celebrates scoring their second goal REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier

He has scored the most goals for the Parisians both in France and in Europe. Mbappe has also helped France win the World Cup at 2018, scored in consecutive World Cup Finals, including a hat-trick. He’s won the tournament’s Golden Boot, and gone on to lead France as a captain.

He is the most prolific and consistent goal-scorer the French league has ever witnessed since Jean-Pierre Papin was rampaging for Marseille in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

And if he goes on to win the Ligue 1 Golden Boot again this season, which seems inevitable, he will have achieved six consecutive times and that is of course never been done before by any player.

How Can You Possibly Fill in For That Kind of a Player?

Mbappe left the World Cup 2022 absolutely dejected with the Golden Boot, even though France had lost in the Finals. And his successes outside the game makes him stand out as well, making him one of the most popular and best players.

Soccer Football – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Final – Argentina v France – Lusail Stadium, Lusail, Qatar – December 18, 2022 France’s Kylian Mbappe after receiving the Golden Boot award during the trophy ceremony REUTERS/Hannah Mckay

Mbappe’s connection with PSG, has sometimes seemed more like a business deal, focusing more on attracting international attention to improve his image and make money. And that might explain why his connection with the PSG fans hasn’t always been perfect. Some fans have been unhappy about his uncertain future with the club, but many still care about him.

Recently, when Mbappe was given an ultimatum to sign a new contract or leave by PSG, fans were cautious about discussing it, understanding the club’s position but also worried about losing a beloved player.

Mbappe is famous worldwide but he’s especially loved in Paris, where he was born and grew up. It would be a huge blow for PSG to lose Mbappe and that too in the hands of Real Madrid, undoubtedly one of the biggest and best clubs in the world for free.

PSG’s way of running is also changing, focusing more on younger players like their loaned prodigy Xavi Simmons, academy product Warren Zaïre-Emery and a new style of play under their new coach. They’ve also spent money on new players such as Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramis, Manuel Ugarte, Moscorado and built a new training center. They’ve also found new investors, which might change how the club is run.

Soccer Football – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Final – Argentina v France – Lusail Stadium, Lusail, Qatar – December 18, 2022 France’s Kylian Mbappe celebrates scoring their third goal to complete his hat-trick REUTERS/Dylan Martinez

PSG will have to find ways new ways to succeed losing Mbappe. But they have some very capable players who could step up and carry the mantle forward like Ousmane Dembele, Marco Asensio, Lucas Hernandez & Co.

PSG is ready for Mbappe to leave despite the challenges. They’ve been planning for this day to come for a while and now they can focus on building a new team for the future. But losing a player like Mbappe will definitely be a big change for PSG.

Pepe and Lamine Yamal set Champions League records on the same night

0

On the same night, both Pepe and Lamine Yamal set age records in the Champions League Round of 16. While the Portuguese centre-back has become the oldest player (40 years and 360 days) to start a Champions League knockout stage game, Yamal became the youngest player (16 years, 223 days) to start a knockout game, adding to his ridiculous set of records over the past year.

Pepe was able to mark the occasion with a win, handing Arsenal a 1-0 loss in front of a home crowd in Porto. The centre-back also kept a clean sheet, denying the London club a result on their return to the knockout stages after five years.

Pepe and Lamine Yamal set Champions League records on the same night

The veteran defender has been at the heart of the defence for Porto over the past few seasons. He has been able to adjust to the pace of the game well in his home country, and even plays for the national team. Pepe wants to play at Euro 2024 too, and with his performances even at this age, it would be hard to see why he shouldn’t.

Yamal, on the other hand, was unable to mark the occasion with a win. Napoli were able to draw 1-1 with Barcelona, as both strikers, Victor Osimhen and Robert Lewandowski, were on target in the fixture.

The youngster was born two years after Pepe played his first Champions League knockout game, and has now made history in the competition once again. He has widely been hyped as the future of Barcelona, and has shown flashes of brilliance on certain occasions. But at such a young age, he still has a lot of room to grow.

Dani Alves sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in jail for sexual assault

0

Dani Alves has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape, with the incident occuring in late December 2022. The former footballer was arrested in January 2023 and has been held in prison pretrial ever since. Now, the court has ruled that the event was not consensual and that Alves did sexually assault the victim.

“The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent, and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven,” the statement said.

The decision against the former Barcelona player was “considered proven that the accused abruptly grabbed the plaintiff, threw her to the floor and prevented her from moving” to carry out the sexual assault.

The court has also ordered Dani Alves to pay €150,000 to the woman in question as damages. Ines Guardiola, Alves’ lawyer, said that they would appeal the decision further.

The prosecutors were looking for a nine-year prison sentence for the footballer. But Alves has been ordered to a five-year period of supervised freedom after his prison sentence, as part of the court’s ruling. He is also forbidden from going within one kilometre of the woman and is not allowed to contact her for nine years.

Dani Alves pleaded that he didn’t commit the crime, and that even though he invited the woman into a VIP washroom, nothing of the sort happened. He also added that he “isn’t that type of a person” to commit such a heinous crime.

In light of the court’s ruling, his legacy as one of the most decorated footballers of all-time has been left tarnished. The former footballer joins a growing list of high profile players who have committed crimes against women such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and Antony.

All the matches of the final round of the Santosh Trophy 2023-24 will be played at the Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia.

History of the Santosh Trophy

The Santosh Trophy, one of the oldest and most prestigious football tournaments in India, has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1941. Named after the late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, then the president of the Indian Football Association, the tournament was established to promote football at the state level and provide a platform for local talent to showcase their skills.

Initially, the Santosh Trophy was contested exclusively by regional teams representing various states and territories across India. Over the years, the tournament’s format has evolved to accommodate changes in the Indian football landscape. Today, it features teams from states, union territories, and government institutions competing for the coveted trophy.

The tournament has witnessed some remarkable moments and memorable performances throughout its storied history. West Bengal, with its rich footballing tradition, has emerged as the most successful state in Santosh Trophy history, boasting the highest number of titles at 32. The team’s dominance is a testament to the state’s passion for the sport and its commitment to nurturing football talent.

Over time, the Santosh Trophy has undergone format changes to adapt to the evolving needs of Indian football. From its early years of knockout rounds, the tournament transitioned to a group stage format, followed by knockout rounds to determine the ultimate champion. This format allowed for more matches and increased opportunities for teams to showcase their abilities on the field.

The Santosh Trophy has also served as a platform for emerging talent to catch the eye of national selectors and earn opportunities to represent the Indian national team. Many players who have excelled in the tournament have gone on to enjoy successful careers at the highest levels of Indian football.

Beyond its sporting significance, the Santosh Trophy holds cultural importance, bringing together football enthusiasts from different regions and communities across India. The tournament’s rich history and tradition continue to inspire and unite football fans across the country, ensuring its enduring legacy in Indian football folklore.

Xbox Cloud Gaming: New Update Is Here, See What Spencer Says

0

It has been quite a while since Xbox Cloud Gaming was introduced by Microsoft. It was launched in the year 2019 and back then it was in its infancy phase.

Hence, there weren’t many features or something like that. At that time Corporate Vice President Kareem Choudhry of Microsoft promised that by 2020, players could play their own games.

However, as we all are well aware, that till now, this promise hasn’t been materialized. So, Xbox Cloud Gaming is exclusively tied to the Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

But now, we are hearing that this promise is going to materialize soon. Wondering, what it could be, then you are at the right place. Here in this article, we are going to dwell on that. So, without any delays let’s dive in.

Xbox Cloud Gaming In 2024

Above we have discussed that back in the initial phase of Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft promised that soon players can play their own games. However, we all know that this good time hasn’t arrived yet.

Now, we are finally getting an update on it and it is straight from Phil Spencer. Recently an Xbox user managed to talk with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and got an update on Xbox Cloud Gaming.

In the background, there is a known gamer, Spencer also seen frequently interacting with the community while playing games. While sometimes these interactions are fruitful giving something to players, sometimes these are just talks.

This time, an Xbox user NASburg asked him about the developmental work going on with Xbox Cloud Gaming. Especially about the feature of owned games, where players can play their own games.

In the reply, the executive said that it ‘should’ arrive to the wider public at some point in 2024. Well, he used the word ‘should’ purposely, so there are 50 – 50 chances of releasing the feature this year.

Earlier they promised to offer this feature by 2020, but as we know it was delayed. So, we don’t know for sure whether we will be able to welcome Xbox Cloud Gaming this year or not.

However, the executive has said that it can be released this year, so this raised expectations of players. As it is said later is better than never, so we are hoping that it will get released in 2024.

We all know that Microsoft has played a big bet on its Xbox Cloud Gaming, in the hope that it can expand core games. Its plan was to expand to the massive mobile market, however, adoption has been slow.

As of the end of 2023, there are only around 39.6 million playing cloud users according to Newzoo’s latest report. Although the company is anticipating significant growth in the upcoming years. But we can’t decline the fact that Xbox Cloud Gaming is expanding satisfactorily.

We can just hope to see better results once Xbox Cloud Gaming is launched. Stay tuned for more updates on Xbox games and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Barcelona forced to cut down their wage bill by £57 million before new season

0

Barcelona have been asked to reduce their wage bill from £231m to 174m ahead of the coming season by LaLiga. Their total spend on players amounts to £421 million, including wages and amortisation costs that are still left, which is well above league limits. As a result, they have been asked to cut down on their wage bill to remain compliant with Financial Fair Play Rules.

Players such as Frenkie De Jong are some of the most affected, with the Dutchman’s contract running until 2026. The club will have to account for the £65 million transfer fees when his deal runs out, and other moves such as those for Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and potentially Joao Felix and Cancelo could add to their wages.

Barcelona remain financially challenged with new FFP ruling

Soccer Football – LaLiga – FC Barcelona v Real Betis – Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, Barcelona, Spain – September 16, 2023 FC Barcelona’s Joao Cancelo celebrates scoring their fifth goal with Inigo Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal and Jules Kounde REUTERS/Albert Gea

The club appealed to account for their future earnings from media and TV now so that they could comply with the FFP rules. But, that has been rejected by UEFA and they have been left with no other choice but to negotiate lower wages.

Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo, De Jong and Pedri are some of the highest earners in the team. And they might have to sacrifice some amount of their wages now that the ruling has called for a further cut.

Ilkay Gundogan Barcelona vs Real Madrid El Clasico
Via Barcelona’s X

Barcelona have made use of free signings in recent windows to ease the pressure on their accounts. The likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, Franck Kessie and Eric Garcia have joined the club as free agents to help the club cut down on transfer expenses, but it hasn’t helped them all that much.

Barcelona’s woes with financial fair play started back when they were unable to extend Lionel Messi’s contract in 2021. And it continues to haunt them now, three years later, with non compliance warranting a possible ban from the UEFA Champions League.
