Batman: Knightfall Part 1 Brings the Iconic ’90s Comic Saga to Animated Life

Few Batman stories hit as hard as Knightfall — the legendary 1993-1994 comic arc where the Dark Knight was finally broken. Now, for the first time ever, that saga is getting the animated treatment, and Batman: Knightfall Part 1 proves the wait was worth it.

What’s New

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation made a bold call: instead of cramming Knightfall, Knightquest, and Knightsend into one film, they’re splitting the epic across three feature-length movies. Part 1 is officially out now, faithfully recreating the gritty, Kelley Jones-inspired ’90s comic art style fans instantly recognize.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1- Overview

Staying True to the Comics

Producer Rick Morales made faithfulness a priority from day one, insisting on Kelley Jones-style character designs rather than modernizing the look. Tim Drake also plays a central role, a deliberate choice since swapping him for Damian Wayne would have completely altered the story’s tone, according to producer Jim Krieg.

Bane also gets a major glow-up in this adaptation. Voice actor Michael Mando worked closely with the team to highlight Bane’s intelligence and psychological depth — traits often underplayed in past portrayals — drawing sharp, intentional parallels between Bane and Batman as two orphans shaped by opposite worlds.

Why It Matters?

At its core, this adaptation is about death and rebirth, and the creative team hopes longtime fans feel the love poured into honoring the source material, while newcomers get pulled straight into the comics. For the full official announcement and more details, check out DC’s official blog.
