A Waltz, a Surprise, and Two People Who Have Everyone Talking — Perfect Crown’s Royal Ball Scene Is Pure Magic

There are K-drama moments that get talked about for years. The waltz scene in MBC’s Perfect Crown looks like it’s about to become one of them. New stills from the upcoming episode have dropped, and honestly? IU and Byeon Woo Seok in a royal ballroom together is everything fans have been waiting for.

What Happens at the Royal Ball?

⚠️ Mild spoilers ahead!

Previously on Perfect Crown, Seong Hui Ju and Grand Prince Ian disagreed over whether to go ahead with their contract marriage — but ultimately came to understand each other’s choices and reconciled. Now, they’re taking things to an entirely new, very public level.

The newly released stills offer a glimpse of the highly-anticipated waltz scene featured prominently in the show’s main poster and trailer — Seong Hui Ju and Grand Prince Ian making a grand entrance at the royal ball that forms the second part of an exclusive inner court banquet. Seong Hui Ju arrives in an elegant chiffon dress while Ian wears a formal uniform, the two looking like a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Chiffon. Uniform. Waltz. Someone hold us.

The Surprise That Has Everyone Shook

It’s not just about the dancing. Not only does the couple catch everyone’s eye while waltzing, but they have also prepared a surprise event that will mark the climax of their contract marriage plan. soompi

And not everyone is pleased about it. Queen Mother Yoon Irang (Gong Seung Yeon) and Prime Minister Min Jeong Woo (Noh Sang Hyun) — both of whom have openly opposed Seong Hui Ju and Grand Prince Ian’s marriage — watch with hardened expressions, with Yoon Irang appearing visibly shocked at what unfolds before her eyes.

The couple who waltzes together, stirs up palace drama together.

What Is Perfect Crown?

Set in an alternate universe where modern-day Korea is a constitutional monarchy, Perfect Crown tells the love story of Seong Hui Ju (IU), a chaebol heiress who has everything but is only a commoner in status, and Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo Seok), a prince who has nothing despite being the son of the king.

The contrast in their social positions — one with wealth but no title, one with royalty but no resources — creates exactly the kind of tension and longing that makes K-drama romance so irresistible. It’s a dynamic that, as Wikipedia notes on Korean drama, has captivated global audiences for decades through its emotionally layered storytelling.
