The Setup: A Royal Engagement in an Alternate Korea
Set in a constitutional monarchy version of modern-day South Korea, Perfect Crown follows Seong Hui Ju (IU) — a chaebol heiress who has enormous wealth but no noble title — and Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo Seok) — a royal who carries status but not much else. Their unlikely love story has been one of the most compelling watches of 2026.
In a pivotal moment from a recent episode, the couple secured the king’s blessing for their engagement after an unexpected proposal at a royal ball. Romantic, right? Well, the real test begins now — meeting the family.
What Happens in the New Episode?
Grand Prince Ian pays his first visit to the home of Seong Hui Ju’s father, Castle Group chairman Seong Hyeon Guk (Jo Seung Yeon). Ian, visibly nervous but composed, puts his best foot forward — a faint smile, polite effort, all-out charm. Hui Ju, meanwhile, can barely hide the discomfort she feels in her own family home, her expression visibly stiffening throughout.
And then — she storms out.
One dramatic exit later, the dinner table is ice cold and Ian is left to somehow salvage the evening alone. The production team has teased that both Hui Ju and Ian share a common thread: both have been made to feel like outsiders within their own families. As they witness each other’s pain up close, their bond is only set to deepen. Just as Hui Ju once stood up for Ian in a difficult moment, now it’s Ian’s turn to fight for her — this time, to win over her father’s heart.
