Skoda Kylaq vs Tata Nexon: A Detailed Comparison of Features and Pricing

The Indian sub-compact SUV segment is among the most competitive in the country and many automakers are vying for the top spot, such as Skoda and Tata Motors. The latest entrant in this segment is the Skoda Kylaq, whose prices start at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), a series of launches from the Czech automaker aimed to capture a sizeable portion. The Kylaq would face tough competition from a number of well-known names in the sub-compact SUV space including segment-best seller Tata Nexon.

The Kylaq comes at an aggressive price, with the base variant costing ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Kia provides the Kylaq in Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige grades. While Skoda has only revealed the pricing for the base variant, the expected competitive pricing will certainly help it attract buyers.

On the other hand, the Tata Nexon is available in multiple variants — Smart, Smart+, Pure, Creative, Fearless, and Fearless+ S — as well as a wider price bracket between ₹8 lakh and ₹15.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes even the base variant of Kylaq significantly cheaper than the Nexon. The Kylaq beats the two miniscule at pricing but that is only for buyers looking at entry-level cars.

The Skoda Kylaq’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is rated at 113 bhp of peak power and 178 Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter automatic unit. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon offers more flexibility with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine offers 113 bhp and 160 Nm of torque. The Nexon also offers a variety of transmission options, including a five-speed manual, six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, and seven-speed DCT unit. This provides more choices for customers based on their preferences.
