Lucy Liu, Karan Johar, and Padma Lakshmi are among the luminaries set to receive recognition at the third annual Gold House Gala in May.

As a director, producer, and television host, Johar has made a lasting impression on both Indian and international audiences, with his films renowned for their compelling narratives, extravagant production quality, and unforgettable performances.
As Karan Johar and his esteemed counterparts step into the spotlight at the Gold House gala, the occasion not only applauds their personal achievements but also stands as a powerful testament to the importance of diversity and representation within the entertainment sector.
The event marks the third installment of the Gold Gala, where influential figures from the Asian Pacific and multicultural communities will gather to honor the 2024 A100 List. Gold House will unveil the A100 honorees on May 1st. This prestigious list showcases the 100 most impactful changemakers of Asian Pacific descent in culture and society throughout the preceding year.
Under the theme “A Gold New World,” this year’s gala envisions an inclusive future shaped collectively. Esteemed fashion designer Prabal Gurung will serve as the inaugural Creative Director, contributing to the realization of this inspiring vision.
Speaking with Variety, Gurang said, “When we talk about Asian representation, we talk about all Asians. People are flying in from India, Taiwan, Shanghai and all over. It’s about people from their respective fields coming together to inspire.” He added, “Gold House and Gold Gala have become a beacon for the Asian Pacific community to unite, invest in, and celebrate our inventiveness and impact.”
“This year, I’ve focused on making Gold Gala look truly global while feeling local, balancing the breadth of our expansive diaspora with its bold, unified heart. From the organic and towering arboreal growths to our centerpiece spheres that shape us–the sun, the moon, our Earth—we envisage a new, more holistic, more centered world that enables all of us to bloom.”
The event is scheduled to unfold at the esteemed Music Center in downtown Los Angeles on May 11. Attendees will indulge in a sumptuous three-course dinner of Michelin quality, crafted by OpenTable, featuring a menu meticulously curated by Lakshmi alongside Gold Gala Executive Chef Vijay Kumar and his accomplished team from Semma in New York City.
Among the distinguished recipients of the A1 Award, acknowledging outstanding contributions in their respective fields over the past year, are actor, producer, and director Dev Patel, recognized for his achievements in Entertainment and Media; content creator and streamer Valkyrae, acclaimed in the realms of Gaming and Sports; and the Maui First Responders, honored for their impactful work in Social Impact.
Shining Stars: Honoring Excellence at the Gold Gala and Beyond
Hoa Xuande, acclaimed for his role in “The Sympathizer,” will be bestowed with the New Gold Award, honoring emerging leaders who redefine the narrative for the Asian Pacific community. Cynthia Erivo, known for her performance in “Wicked,” will be recognized with the Gold Ally honor for her impactful contributions both in front of and behind the camera, championing representation.
The creators and cast of Netflix’s “Beef” will be presented with the Gold Icon honor, acknowledging the groundbreaking portrayal of the Asian American experience in the series. Additionally, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, Hello Kitty will be honored with the Gold Generation distinction.
Among other notable honorees are Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi.
Distinguished presenters for the evening will include Alok Vaid-Menon, Regina King, Daniels, Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria, Jon M. Chu, and Lulu Wang. Stay tuned for announcements of additional honorees and presenters.
Following the gala, the inaugural Gold House x Billboard Founders Party will take place, featuring A100 honoree Steve Aoki as the event’s DJ. The festivities will also include a performance by Nymphia Wind, newly crowned queen from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16.
