If breaking records in the football world and making a new one is an art then Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the Picasso of it!. A few days back Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th international goal and is closing the gap to be the all-time top scorer in International football. It was time for Leo Messi to step up again and he did that against Ecuador yesterday.

Argentina beat Ecuador in their first World Cup 2022 qualifier match by 1-0. Messi netted his 71st international career goals. He is now only 6 goals away to be the top scorer of South America beating the record of the Brazilian Legend Pele.

After making his debut in 2005 for his country he has played in 139 games. In this time he has won the Gold medal for Argentina in Olympics 2008. In the 2014 World Cup, Argentina was the runners up and Lionel Messi was the Golden Ball winner in that world cup as well.

Lionel Messi is now the second-highest goalscorer in South America breaking the 66 goals of Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario. Lionel Messi’s former FC Barcelona teammates Neymar and Luis Suarez are in 4th and 5th respectively in the list.

In the same day, Neymar also surpasses Lionel Messi and becomes the highest assist provider in international football. Neymar has created 2 chances for Brazil against Bolivia. He has 44 assists in 102 matches for Brazil. Lionel Messi has 42 assists in 138 matches.

Argentina will face Bolivia on Tuesday. Can Messi surpasses Neymar again and also reduces the gap between him and Pele as well?
