What has been a rather disappointing summer for Manchester United fans, seems to be ending on a high note. The reason being that United have successfully negotiated the signing of Porto left-back Alex Telles for their proposed fee of €15 million including add-ons.
The Portuguese club were unwilling to part with their prized asset for anything less than €18-€20 million. However, their stance on the player has softened after the player pushed to sign for the Red Devils.
Telles has been on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar throughout the summer, and deadline day seems to be the time when the Brazilian left-back will officially be unveiled as a Red Devil.
Since making the move to Porto from Galatasaray, the Brazilian left-back has been a regular, and arguably one of their most important players, making 195 appearances in all competitions over 4 years in Portugal.
During his 195 appearances for Porto, he has racked up an impressive 57 assists and 26 goals.
Manchester United fans have been crying out loud for reinforcements at the back, with Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams failing to boost Manchester United’s aspirations of bridging the gap between fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.
While a centre-back looks unlikely to be on the cards considering the transfer window slams shut tomorrow, Telles’ arrival at the Old Trafford could shake things up in a similar fashion to that of Bruno Fernandes and the energy that he has brought to the offensive side of United’s game.
The 27-year-old will become only the second signing for Manchester United this summer, after the arrival of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
The negotiations for Telles are rumoured to conclude in the next few hours. The medical and official announcement of the player’s arrival can be expected tomorrow, in the fallout of United’s game against Tottenham.
