Reports had surfaced yesterday that Ousmane Dembele was on the verge of leaving Barcelona permanently. While that no longer seems to be the case, there is a lot more clarity on the case.
It was heavily rumoured by Dembele’s camp that Barca were willing to listen to offers around €75 million, including bonuses. However, today the updates say that Manchester United are NOT interested in signing the Frenchman permanently.
They only want a loan deal for the winger as their primary target still remains Jadon Sancho.
The club had most recently made a €100 million bid for the Dortmund star, but the German club rejected United’s advances. Their demands of €120 million for the English wonderkid seem to be non-negotiable. And this time, the yellow and black club are firm on their stance.
Manchester United have repeatedly tried signing Sancho, but have never managed to meet the valuation of the youngster by his current club. A summer that promised to be one of the most memorable ones in recent memory, is now looking to be a shocker.
With Mason Greenwood being only 18, and Daniel James being unable to cement a position for himself in the starting line-up, it is only natural that a club of Manchester United’s stature would look for quality reinforcements to challenge at the highest level.
With the club competing for silverware on four fronts, it is only natural that they have access to the best of talents to truly compete with the rest of Europe.
Dembele has been keen on staying at Camp Nou and fighting for his place in the starting lineup. However, Memphis Depay has long been rumoured to be on the radar of new boss Ronald Koeman.
The departure of Dembele could surely open up the opportunity for Barca to land Depay before the transfer window shuts on next Monday.
