Microsoft’s next-gen console leaked to be a cloud-hybrid type

According to a leaked court document Microsoft is reportedly developing hybrid machines that would use the “combined power of the client and cloud to deliver deeper immersion and entirely new classes of game experiences.” According to the document, the console will be geared for real-time gameplay and developers, and will have increased capabilities beyond what the client hardware can provide.

Surprisingly, Microsoft is considering abandoning AMD (Zen 6) in favor of Arm for the CPU of its next-generation game console. The GPU will either be co-designed with AMD (Navi 5) or licensed from AMD (Navi 5), depending on the company’s decision. The next console could have next-generation Raytracing, Dynamic Global Illumination, Micropolygon Rendering Optimizations, ML-based Super Resolution, and other capabilities. The documents also reveal that the 10th-generation Xbox systems may be released in 2028.

While the next-generation Xbox consoles are still some time away, Microsoft is planning to release a modified Xbox Series X (codenamed Brooklyn) with new features next year.

The new console is rumored to lack a disc drive and instead have 2TB of storage as well as a powered USB-C connector on the front.

The device may also be more power efficient, as the power supply will have a 15% lower capacity than the current model. It is expected to ship in October-November 2024, with a $499 MSRP similar to the present Xbox Series X.

Along with the upcoming Xbox Series X, Microsoft is developing on a revamped Xbox Series S (codenamed Ellewood) with 1TB of storage and an August-September 2024 release date. Furthermore, the paper says that ‘Edith,’ which could be a codename for the current Xbox Series S, will be lowered to $199 for Black Friday before being discontinued. The business also intends to retire ‘Starkville’ before the Brooklyn launch, but it is unclear what that device will be.

According to a leaked render, the next console will be more cylindrical than the current model, and it will include an accompanying controller (codenamed ‘Sebile’) with an accelerometer, cloud compatibility, Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, and a ‘Xbox Wireless 2’ connection. A rechargeable and detachable battery, modular thumbsticks, and a lift-to-wake function are also included.
