Just weeks after PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated, “Mbappe is going to stay in Paris… Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris,” Mbappe has cast doubts over his long-term future at PSG.
As the 22-year-old struggles to agree to a new deal at the club, speculations of Real Madrid, a club keen on signing the French superstar, buying him increases. Mbappe’s future at PSG is under smoke with just 1 year remains on his deal with the club. Zinedine Zidane has always been adamant on signing the young talent. Even after his departure, Real seems keen on signing the forward.
Mbappe’s Statement
Here is what Mbappe told France Football when he was asked about his immediate future, “I don’t necessarily need to go fast. I have to make the right decision, which is difficult and I give myself every chance to make up my mind. I am in a place where I like myself, where I feel good. But is this the best place for me? I don’t have the answer yet. I know that a project with or without me is not quite the same for the club. But PSG understands my feelings. Probably also because they know that I will not sneak. Being a great player also proves itself outside the field where you have to know how to do things cleanly and with class.”
Media Speculations
French media company, RMC Sport, has also claimed recently that Mbappe has made his intentions clear to the club that he is not willing to make any decision on his future until after the UEFA Euro 2020.
RMC also claimed the striker never sought any control over PSG’s transfer policy, but he wants an assurance that they are willing to continue to build a competitive squad in the coming years.
Potential Move to Real Madrid?
Karim Benzema has recently championed a move for his French national teammate to Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti. Benzema stated, “If he could come to Madrid, that would be ideal. All the great players want to come to Real Madrid one day so I hope that will be done quickly, that’s if he wants to leave PSG who are also a good team.”
Although Benzema continues to be Real’s best striker in the recent seasons albeit his best years might be behind him soon considering he turns 34 this year. Florentino Perez is eager to find a long-term replacement for him and Mbappe has his attention. We will have to wait till the Euros end and Mbappe pays some attention to his contract at PSG.
