Bayern Munich are reportedly set to revive their interest in Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer. The Bavarians were keen on the winger back in January 2019, but Chelsea rejected four bids of around £35 million each for him. They subsequently tied him down with a new contract worth £120,000 each week.
His 19/20 campaign was massively hindered due to an Achilles injury that practically ruled him out for the season. And his form has failed to reach what the potential was before his injury.
The player has failed to secure regular playing time under Thomas Tuchel. He was deployed as a right wing-back in the first few games, but Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta have since been restored to that position. Since Chelsea don’t operate with natural wingers, it will be difficult to accommodate Hudson-Odoi unless the German coach changes his approach.
The other academy graduates at the club such as Mason Mount and Reece James have earned their spot in the starting lineup. But the same cannot be said for the winger, who has been given a more rotational role.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are doing away with Douglas Costa since his loan spell expires this summer. The vacancy could provide Hudson-Odoi with a great chance to develop. Moreover, the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann will also be a great advantage. The 33-year-old has a reputation for getting the best out of young players, and Callum Hudson-Odoi could be a massive star under the new Bayern boss.
