The Superman Connection — Explained
The new trailer confirms the inclusion of Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) — the Lantern who appeared in James Gunn’s Superman. With John Stewart set to play a role in the ongoing DCU, HBO is beginning to show fans exactly how the world will connect.
Lanterns is directly connected to James Gunn’s Superman movie, confirmed by the fact that Nathan Fillion reprises his DCU role as Guy Gardner in the series, after also appearing in Peacemaker Season 2.
Aaron Pierre is also confirmed to reprise his role as John Stewart in Gunn’s Superman follow-up film, titled Man of Tomorrow — cementing Lanterns as a critical bridge in the growing DCU.
What the New Trailer Shows
Lanterns is a buddy cop murder mystery about veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and rookie John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), set in Midwest USA. The first trailer inspired comparisons to True Detective — watching it blind, you could be forgiven for thinking it wasn’t even a superhero show at all.
The explosive new trailer shows the full power of the Green Lantern ring in action. It puts the ongoing friction between Hal Jordan and John Stewart at centre stage, alongside Nathan Fillion’s returning Guy Gardner and a mysterious role for Laura Linney. Hungama Express
The show also stars Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry. The Scotsman
