A Joseon Villainess, a Slap That Didn’t Land, and a Two-Against-One Showdown — My Royal Nemesis Is Turning Up the Heat

Lim Ji Yeon possessed by the spirit of a Joseon-era concubine, staring down a top celebrity trying to slap her — with the sharp, unflinching gaze of an apex predator. Honestly, what more could you want from a Friday night drama?

My Royal Nemesis: The Drama at a Glance

SBS’s My Royal Nemesis is a romantic comedy starring Lim Ji Yeon as Shin Seo Ri, a struggling actress who is suddenly possessed by the spirit of a notorious villainess from the Joseon era. Heo Nam Jun stars as Cha Se Gye, a ruthless chaebol heir known as a “monster created by capitalism.”

The blend of sageuk spirit possession with a modern entertainment industry backdrop is gloriously unhinged — and it’s working.

The Joseon dynasty, which forms the historical backbone of Shin Seo Ri’s possessing spirit, is one of Korea’s most documented royal periods. Read more about it on Wikipedia – Joseon.

What’s Happening in the Latest Episode? (Spoilers)

Previously in My Royal Nemesis, Shin Seo Ri and top star Yoon Ji Hyo (Lee Se Hee) clashed during the “Searching for the Queen” audition for Dynasty, a newly launched brand by Se Gye. Refusing to be intimidated, Seo Ri confidently spoke her mind, criticising Ji Hyo for saying she wanted to become a “wise wife and good mother” and declaring that she would remain unmarried.

The newly released stills show a tense confrontation between Seo Ri, Ji Hyo, and agency CEO Hong Bu Seon (Baek Ji Won) — a fierce two-against-one battle. Meanwhile, Seo Ri’s swollen red cheek hints at a troubling turn of events.

Possessed by the spirit of Joseon-era villainess concubine Kang Dan Shim, Seo Ri fights back fiercely — giving off an intimidating presence as she stares down Ji Hyo, who tries to slap her, with the sharp gaze of a predator. Ji Hyo appears visibly shocked by Seo Ri’s intense energy. soompi

Key Characters & Their Roles

Why My Royal Nemesis Deserves Your Weekend

The genius of this drama is how it weaponises Seo Ri’s possession. A timid, struggling actress would normally fold under pressure from a top star and a powerful CEO. But with Kang Dan Shim — a woman who survived the cutthroat politics of the Joseon royal court — living inside her? Nobody in that room stands a chance.

The audition confrontation and the incoming slap scene are exactly the kind of sharp, satisfying moments that keep audiences glued to their screens. Lim Ji Yeon, already proven in fierce roles, looks absolutely electric in the stills.
