Malayalam Cinema Patriot is A Biggest Reunion Since Forever Just Said “Varunnundu” — And We Are So Ready

One photo. One caption. And the entire Malayalam film industry broke into excitement. Fahadh Faasil posted a selfie with Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, director Mahesh Narayanan, and musician Sushin Shyam — captioning it simply with “Varunnundu” (We’re coming), signalling the trailer launch of Patriot on April 4, 2026.

That’s not just a trailer announcement. That’s a moment.

What Is Patriot All About?

Patriot is a spy action drama directed by Mahesh Narayanan, revolving around a controversial intelligence mission. What makes this film extraordinary is its cast — Mammootty and Mohanlal together on screen after nearly a decade, backed by an ensemble that reads like a who’s who of Malayalam cinema royalty. Add Fahadh Faasil playing the villain and you have a film that was destined to generate this level of buzz before a single frame was publicly screened.

Why This Film Is a Landmark for Malayalam Cinema

Let’s be honest — Mammootty and Mohanlal sharing the same frame is something every Malayalam film fan has waited years to see. Their reunion alone is enough to fill theatres across Kerala and beyond. But Patriot isn’t riding just on nostalgia. With Mahesh Narayanan — who previously delivered acclaimed thrillers — at the helm, this is a film built with serious craft.

Fahadh Faasil as the antagonist adds another compelling layer. His ability to make villains genuinely menacing is well-established, and watching him go up against Mammootty and Mohanlal is the kind of screen conflict that only happens once in a generation.

What’s Next for Both Leads

Beyond Patriot, the two superstars have packed schedules. Mohanlal heads straight into Drishyam 3 releasing May 21, 2026, along with ongoing work on L366 and the highly anticipated KHxRK Reunion alongside Rajinikanth. Mammootty meanwhile has Padayaatra, the Dhanush-starrer D55, and Mattancherry Mafia lined up — making 2026 a landmark year for both legends simultaneously.

For fans of South Indian cinema, the next few months look absolutely unmissable.
