What Each Release Brings To The Table

Thudakkam marks Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut, and it’s a bold one. She plays Meenu, a young Muay Thai practitioner whose act of kindness — helping two schoolgirls get home safely — draws the attention of a menacing stranger. As unsettling encounters pile up and her training hits setbacks, Meenu eventually goes missing, pulling her family into a desperate search. The story builds to a tense final confrontation where her martial arts skills become her only defense. Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, the film also features a cameo from Mohanlal himself.

Modha Rathri, dubbed into Malayalam, follows Maruthu and Muthuselvi, two near-strangers pushed into an arranged marriage by family pressure and village tradition. Maruthu has just returned from six years working in Dubai, while Muthuselvi enters the marriage under her mother’s orders while quietly nursing a heartbreak of her own. It’s a gentle, slice-of-life comedy drama about two people learning to navigate a relationship neither of them chose.

Irumudi brings Ravi Teja into darker territory as Trinadh, a protective father whose daughter Manikanta uncovers disturbing secrets involving her friend and other schoolgirls. When Manikanta disappears, Trinadh follows the trail of an audio message she left behind, eventually confronting those responsible and helping other girls find the courage to speak up. It’s as much a father’s mission as it is a fight for justice.

Idi Mazha Kattu rounds out the week on a lighter note, following Sougada, a migrant worker from West Bengal who arrives in Kerala for work only to have her belongings stolen. Her search for them brings her together with four eccentric local men, leading to a comic, heartfelt journey that touches on migration and unexpected unity — themes that resonate well beyond the laughs.

Why Malayalam OTT Keeps Winning

Malayalam cinema has built a reputation for grounded, character-driven storytelling, a tradition rooted in the broader history of Indian cinema that continues to punch above its weight on the national stage. This week’s slate is proof — four very different genres, all telling human stories rather than chasing spectacle.
