The footballing world was afire with rumours this week that Liverpool had succeeded in signing Red Bull Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate. However, clarifying the situation on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio stated that it is not a done deal yet.
They further went on to point out that RB Leipzig seem to have their transfer window in March and are quiet during summer, calling back to last year when Timo Werner was announced to be joining Chelsea before the season ended. Moreover, Dayot Upamecano has also been announced to be joining Bayern Munich when the season ends.
Konate has not signed for the Premier League club, but they are negotiating with the player and are looking at the injuries he has sustained in recent years too. They are convinced that he will be a top player for Liverpool and RB Leipzig will not accept anything less than the release clause of the player worth €40 million.
Liverpool did secure the singings of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies from Schalke and Preston North End respectively, but are keen to add some more quality to their ranks and considering the fact that Fabinho is not a natural centre-back, and that Joel Matip seems to be struggling for fitness, the arrival of Konate could provide JĂ¼rgen Klopp with some well-needed stability.Â
