Lenovo has continued its tradition of announcing premium ThinkPad X1 laptops at the CES for years by rolling out two new models and two updates to its ThinkPad X1 lineup this year all-digital CES 2021. The two new updates include ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 and X1 Yoga Gen 6, while the two new models include ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga and ThinkPad X12 Detachable.
The first Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon was released in the year 201 and led the way in the ThinkPad portfolio’s ultrabook-revolution. Since then, Lenovo has evolved its flagship ThinkPad, though pretty carefully in the last years, with its last big update in terms of the design being in 2017, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 5 with its slim-bezel design. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 in 2019 was introduced with better speakers but not many additional improvements.
The relative stagnation ends now: With the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2021 and the metal-clad convertible brother ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2021, which are completely redesigned laptops introducing improved user experiences built around all-new 16:10 aspect ratio displays. They feature low blue light, an integrated fingerprint reader on the power button, and new ComputerVision Experiences (CVx) support by a human presence detection sensor for enhanced security and ease of use.
Joining Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos Speaker System, according to Lenovo, both X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga are the world’s first laptops to support Dolby Voice, “which delivers a supreme conferencing experience that feels more natural, reduces listener fatigue, and sounds stunningly clear to make meetings more productive.” A comprehensive 5G-ready premium ThinkPad X1 portfolio now includes X1 Fold and ultra-light X1 Nano announced last September with the new additions in ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 and X1 Yoga Gen 6.
The ThinkPad X12 Detachable combines the features of a high-performance laptop with the flexibility of a 12.3-inch detachable tablet, with the display being protected by Corning® Gorilla Glass. The optional Lenovo Precision Pen or Lenovo Digital Pen is supported for input by the display and the backlit folio keyboard enables a seamless transition between modes.
According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is its thinnest ThinkPad ever. The all-new laptop is covered in titanium material and is just over 11mm thin featuring a gorgeous 3:2 ratio 13.5-inch low power display along with Dolby Vision® HDR support and Dolby Atmos® Speaker System. Aside from its slender build and being covered in titanium material, the convertible two-in-one laptop has an IR camera for touchless sign-ins as well as a fingerprint reader and is 5G ready.
Finally, also in the ThinkPad range, Lenovo is releasing the next level of intelligent docking experiences led by the new ThinkPad Thunderbolt™ 4 and USB-C Universal and Smart Docks. “Designed to address dock manageability pain points brought by increased work-from-anywhere scenarios, the new docks allow silent detection, download, and install of firmware updates.”
