Andres Iniesta reveals plans for his future beyond 2022

Andres Iniesta has revealed his stance about his future, and if Barcelona is in his plans. The midfielder has been playing with Japanese club Vissel Kobe and is expected to wind down his career in the coming years.

He has hinted that he would like to return to his boyhood club, Barcelona, after he is done on the pitch.

Andres Iniesta reveals Barcelona return ambitions

“I’ll spend another year here, then we’ll see,” Iniesta told Gazzetta Dello Sport. “I’d like to return to Barcelona, but I don’t know which role. Coach, sporting director or other. In any case, I’ll have to form myself. I still see myself as a footballer.”

His former teammate, Xavi, is currently in charge of Barcelona and is rebuilding their first team. He has helped the team return to being title contenders, and is also in a crunch situation in the Champions League.

Barcelona will face Inter Milan this matchday, in a game that could determine their European season. Andres Iniesta also spoke about the tense game in midweek in the interview:

“I expect Barcelona to take the initiative, while Inter will sit deep, given that a draw would be a good result for them. Details decide the Champions League, but Barcelona have a chance to make a step forward.

“From the outside, I can see that there is emotional instability at Barcelona. Victories boost confidence, but a defeat is enough for doubts to emerge.

“I believe they have found a great playing style and have a complete team. It’s been an excellent season so far.”
