After the deciding fifth and final match in Bengaluru was postponed owing to rain, India and South Africa shared the Twenty20 International series. The visiting team won the first two matches but India came back to tie the series at 2-2, forcing the series to a Sunday final. Rain pulled the players off the field just as play was scheduled to begin at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi bowled the hosts’ opening batters, reducing India to 28-2 following the resumption. With only 3.3 overs bowled, it began to rain again, and no further play was possible.
Let’s have a look at the match highlights.
India vs South Africa 5th T20: Match Highlights
The rain prompted the fifth and final T20I in Bengaluru to be called off after only 21 deliveries were delivered. The five-game T20I series was tied at 2-2 when the umpires put a halt to play as the rain continued to fall for nearly 90 minutes and the players exchanged handshakes. After India lost both Ishan Kishan (15) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (10) early in the powerplay, the rain came back to interrupt play for the second time.
There was a 90% likelihood of rain interruption according to the Bengaluru weather prediction. A heavy downpour earlier disrupted the start of the fifth and final game of the series in Bengaluru, after Keshav Maharaj won the toss and decided to bowl at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the absence of Temba Bauma, Maharaj led the guests. Tristan Stubbs, Reeza Hendricks, and Kagiso Rabada replaced Bavuma, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Marco Jansen for the Proteas.
