Intel Alder Lake Core i5-12400F smashes the floor with AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X in a new benchmark

New benchmarks of Intel’s Alder Lake Core i5-12400F Desktop CPU have surfaced online, demonstrating that it is faster in gaming and synthetic benchmarks than AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X.

Within the Alder Lake Core i5 CPU segment, the Intel Core i5-12400 will be the most entry-level chip. It will have six cores, twelve threads, and will rely solely on Golden Cove (P-Cores). Gracemont cores will not be available on the 12400. Furthermore, it will have a base clock of 2.5 GHz and can boost to 4.4 GHz (4.0 GHz all-core). Although the CPU has a base TDP of 65W, the maximum wattage should be in the range of 100-150W. Well, not exactly 150, because the top Core i5 unlocked chip, the Core i5-12600K, has 150 cores, but we’ll find out once we test the chip.

The new benchmarks were disclosed by a Bilibili content creator who had access to the chip’s QS variant. An OEM B660M-N D4 motherboard was utilized, which enables DDR4 memory and overclocking. The test machine included 16 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and an RTX 3070 graphics card.

The Intel Core i5-12400F is pitted against the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Core i7-11700K, and Core i5-11400F. Within CPU-z, the chip outperforms all CPUs in single-core testing and outperforms the 5600X and 11400F in multi-threaded tests. Only the Core i7-11700K, which has a considerably faster clock speed and more threads, beats it out (12 vs 16). The tiny i5-12400F chip is 19 percent faster in multi-threaded tests and 11 percent faster in single-threaded tests in the Cinebench R23 benchmark. The Intel i5-12400F is roughly 13% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X in the TimeSpy CPU score.

Intel Core i5-12400F CPU Synthetic Benchmarks:

When it came to gaming benchmarks, all CPUs were put to the test at a resolution of 1080p. In CSGO, the i5-12400F is 4% faster, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the average frame rate is roughly on par with the Ryzen 5, and in Red Dead Redemption 2, the chip outperforms all of the others.

The Intel Core i5-12400F has already been observed to run at 60 degrees Celsius at full load while drawing less than 80 watts. This means the Alder Lake i5 processor is slightly more efficient than AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X Zen 3 processor. Aside from that, the Core i5-12400 will cost under $200 US, making it an amazing value when compared to a Ryzen processor that costs 50% more. When combined with many low-cost 600-series motherboards that will be available next month, the chip would create a great budget build (with DDR5 and DDR4 memory support).
