As pre-orders begin preparing for shipment, Apple Authorized Retailers around the world are beginning to get stock of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro. Apple’s new MacBook Pro models have been surfacing online and on social media, allowing viewers to take a peek at the laptop’s appearance.

After the first videos and images of the new MacBook surfaced online, including a comparison to the previous-generation 13-inch MacBook Pro as well as an unboxing video, new images of MacBook Pro are again out(via MacRumors).

These images and videos offer our first look at the MacBook Pro’s redesigned chassis, including the all-black keyboard, the thicker design, and the notch cutout in the display. The video was posted on Reddit this afternoon, as was a comparison image to the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is a new size class that sits comfortably between the 13-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The edge-to-edge display, 0.61-inch thick chassis, and 3.5-pound weight make for a small yet powerful machine.

At first glance, this laptop is obviously a MacBook Pro with the aluminum body, giant trackpad, and slim enclosure. However, the keyboard is surrounded by black casing, the display is notched, and there are large feet underneath.

On the front, one of the most notable design changes is the inclusion of a notch. Apple is taking steps to limit the influence that the notch has in day-to-day use on the new MacBook Pros. As you can see in the photo below, the notch is more noticeable when users are not using full-screen macOS apps, and Apple has increased the height of the macOS menu bar to accommodate the notch.

While the 14-inch MacBook Pro is an impressive machine, it owes most of its capabilities to the custom Apple Silicon inside. Customers can choose between the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors when configuring their new MacBook, and each offer significant improvements over the equivalent Intel processor.

Thanks to the efficiency of custom Apple Silicon, the battery life of the 14-inch MacBook Pro extends into all-day use. While intense tasks will drain the battery faster, general use can last up to 11 hours. And thanks to the 120Hz variable refresh, video playback can last up to 17 hours.
