Dani Alves offers himself to Barcelona five years after leaving

Dani Alves has reportedly offered himself to former club Barcelona as a transfer target now that he is a free agent. The player took to social media to state that he would not return to football in 2021, and would rather take the remainder of the year off before returning in 2022.

The right-back most recently featured for Brazilian club Sao Paulo, and his contract was terminated due to financial issues. Alves had around €3 million outstanding as part of his salary, and was the highest paid player in the team.

The Brazilian club were struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic suspending crowds from coming and watching games in the stands. Given that they are the major source of revenue for any football club, Sao Paulo suffered a big loss and were unable to meet the salary demands of Alves.

Frustrated with the club, he left for the national team and captained them to the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Dani Alves is a Barcelona legend, and featured for them for 8 years before moving to Juventus for one year and then PSG. After spending a couple of years in France, he returned to Brazil to play with Sao Paulo.

While the idea of a reunion is definitely one that Barcelona fans would appreciate, the club believes that a return for the right-back will not be feasible. As a result, we might see Dani Alves feature for another South American club next year instead of Barcelona.
